It's probably better (and faster) to enable VGA mode rather than boot into Safe Mode. You can get to it from the same F8 boot menu (Vista may have it listed as Enable Low Resolution (640 x 480))

So I did the same thing... Ah well, if I'm out of the running, I'm out of the running... Would be nice to have a new PC to replace my aging AMD rig...

I still prefer to buy CDs... Of course, I rip them to my computer as soon as I get home... I like being able to rip to a format of my choosing and still have physical media in case my computer dies on me. It also doesn't help that I still have an old CD player in my truck and here in the Philadelphia area, it's hard to find an available FM station for an FM transmitter and my iPod.

I've seen Outlook 07 fail to launch too many times to count on Vista machines... A quick look at Task Manager shows that the outlook.exe is still running. Simply right-click and end process, then relaunch Outlook. I still don't know why this happens, but of the top 10 support calls I take every day, Outlook not launching ranks #2.

I think they called that Lindows... :)
Linux has gotten far easier to use over the years, yet there will likely always be a need to work from a terminal. Even M$ is moving back to command-line operations. Windows Server 2k8 even has a power shell only install that requires everything be configured from the command line. Why? Because in a server environment, all a GUI does for you is slow things down. Granted, learning all of the commands needed to do day to day tasks can suck, but with a little research, even my mother could learn to work from a terminal or command line interface.
