Guess I 'll be the lamer here and say I kinda disagree. I know it's great being able to keep some of your favorite games that are older, but face it, not all games work with Wine. For every Half Life 2 that does work, there are Command & Conquer or Mechwarrior games that don't. I used to support Transgaming, but even as a paying customer, my voice in games supported were not heard, which is why I use Sun's VirtualBox with added 3D support for graphics. I look forward to 256 mb graphic support in the future.

 One of the staples of Microsoft O/S's of the past was the ability to somewhat customize the look and feel to something you are already familiar with....
In XP...this meant being able to make your Start Menu resemble Windows 98's CLASSIC Menu for example.
Windows 7 is better than Vista.....hands down. I ran it adequately on my old celeron 1.8 gig machine with 650 megs of memory and a 40 gig drive.
Still.....to me its just Vista with a better paint job.
I would prefer that 7 be based on Windows XP's kernel than Server 2003.
The compatibility that existed between XP and Windows 2000 was awesome...and I think Redmond needs to reexplore that.

I have a Sony Playstation 3....and since I am one of the early buyers....I have one that is 100% backwards compatible (the Ps2 Emotion Engine CPU is built into the 60 gig PS3.)
therefore I can play all my PS2 games with ease.
I have had no problems or issues with my PS3..and all I hear on these boards is about people who own 360's have 'Red-Rings of Death' etc etc.
What is it about Microsoft that they cannot make a quality product anymore?
I mean one minute you're seeing a BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH....now the RED RING OF DEATH.
Sounds so final, and wasteful my wallet would cry.

Right now...hands down no comparison.....my PS3 blows the 360 outta the water hands down.

I installed Windows 7 on my test machine last night.
I am impressed with the overall speed of 7....as opposed to its older sibling Vista. The overall memory footprint is also impressive.
My gripes with this O/S however...have to do with the changes made.
Microsoft seemingly made changes to the O/S for spites sake.
There is no customizing the START menu bar to 'classic' Windows computing that we all know and love.
Also you are having to relearn a new GUI map. 

All in all....Vista fans might like Windows 7.
I think people migrating from Windows XP however.....are going to want to continue to stick with XP.

Another good resource is an online virus scanner.
I occasionally use Trend Micro's free online scanner called HouseCall.
It can remove any threats that my anti vrius scanner doesn't detect...and has helped me out of many a jam.

My current computer is a Hewlett Packard 2.8 ghz computer.
I dual boot with a Debian variant Sidux on one side...Windows XP on the other.
My pc comes equipped with onboard video memory...which you HAVE to keep activated in order to install linux on this computer. When installing...I have to dedicate at least 32 mb of video memory...even  though I have a ATI Radeon X1300 graphics card installed.
You'll want to boot up in video safe mode....otherwise you'd have top hit ctrl/alt f2 or f3 and edit your xorg.conf file as such

sudo apt-get install nano
sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf

scroll down the list until you see what driver is listed.

On my computer...it would list Driver="Intel810"

I change it to Driver="vesa".....hit ctrl O to save the change I just made....then ctrl X to exit.
Type exit to exit sudo....then type start x.
If the problem is in your video....your linux distro should boot.

 After your linux has booted...dtermine WHICHdriver you will need...and holler back.

I have run Vista on a Pentium 3 933 mhz Hewlett Packard with 512 megs of memory. Granted there was no schnazzy 3d Aero display...but it ran capably. If I can do it on a PENTIUM 3 computer...why can't someone run it on oh say a Pentium 4 1.8 ghz processor with at least a gig of memory??
