Well compatibility mode is just emulation it doesn't work 100% for every program. But this is a full Windows XP install virtualized which means the only limitations will probably be graphic intensive programs/games and system utilities like antiviruses. But hypothetically every regular program that is only compatible with Windows XP should work flawlessly.

This probably won't affect many home users since most comsumer programs that are only compatible with XP have been either dumped or will work in some type of compatibility mode. But this could be good for some businesses. I think it's a smart move by MS.

Just tried it, and it seems to work pretty well. I will have to do some more testing on it, but it reduced my ping a little bit and of course passed all of the security tests. I'll be using OpenDNS on all routers that I set up now.

I haven't had too much experience with netbooks, but I think you may be missing the point. As long as netbooks can boot in under a minute and browse the web and work with MS Office 2k3 or OpenOffice.org without a ridiculous amount of slowdown they are fast enough. Netbooks aren't made for general computing or gaming. They don't have to push the performance boundary as long as they are less expensive than regular notebooks.

I've seen some mixed things about it. MaxPC had some positive reviews when it first came out, but I heard that there was an issue with corrupting data. Has that been fixed with Power Pack 1 (why did they change the name from Service Pack to Power Pack? Is that only with Home Server 2008, or will we be calling every new Windows release Windows <blank> PP1?

It's pretty obvious that they're waiting so that they don't cannabilize their current sales. If they posted the free PDF right as the new issue was released how many people would bother buying it from the newstands or renewing their subscription? A three month lag isn't that bad.
