Study Finds CD Sales Still Strong in the Face of Digital Downloads

Posted 07/16/2009 at 12:53:02pm

A survey of 1,000 people is hardly a proper sampling group of millions of people (310,000,000 USA alone = .0003% sample) and if that was global it's even worse.

That's why random surveys don't work so well when dealing with large scale topics.

Unscientific Poll: Gamers Don't Care about PhsyX

Posted 05/07/2009 at 10:56:33am

Given the "newness" of the technology actually be incorporated into games, I wouldn't expect these results to be any different. However given enough time PhysX could be a great boon for games by taking processes off the CPU, or it could be simply be another "great idea" gone bad....only time will tell since this is new.

Now if it became officially supported with ATI chipsets as well, then well it will probably take off as another graphic card standard spec.

Justin Long's a Liar, Apple Tells Mac Users to Install Antivirus Software

Posted 12/02/2008 at 03:04:30pm

Hey Maximum PC don't fall into the Mac lying Hype, the comment "Talk to any Mac-inite and he'll tell you how secure his Mac is compared to your Windows-based PC. And admittedly, he's right."

As any security professional knows, admittedly he's wrong, given the last few years of zero day exploits, 3rd party reports, SANS and other security conferences and contests, the list goes on. Apple OS is one of the worst on exploits. And I'm not even including Quicktime in that analysis, though I have to include the horribly insecure Safari.

Ok enough ranting, it's just good to know that Apple's misinformation campaign is finally becoming derailed... unfortunately too many "normal" users have already accepted this information as truth.

Newegg Reverses Decision to Collect New York Sales Tax

Posted 08/27/2008 at 01:41:25pm

Not to offend your wife, but she should read the 10th amendment, this is the basis for Amazon, Overstock and now NewEgg's fight against this amendment to the New York State Sales tax law. Unless a national sales tax is put in place to replace state sales tax, or the 10th amendment is modified I do not think the states will win on this one, but hey you never know, your wifey can call me a loser if I'm wrong! ha...all in good fun....

Newegg Reverses Decision to Collect New York Sales Tax

Posted 08/27/2008 at 01:37:00pm

Last time I checked Newegg did not have any warehouses in New York, and their caveat "affiliate/referral" clause where if someone in the state posts on a link on their website has a flimsy foundation legally and clearly attempts to enforce New York state law on other state governments. The 1992 Supreme Court ruling that concluded that a business must have a physical presence in a state in order to be responsible for collecting sales tax on purchases shipped there, is the only Supreme Court ruling on this matter, so NJ, TN and CA residents have been paying tax since. In this case luckily Amazon and Overstock will be leading the charge on the challenge vs NY and I'm excited to have this extremely unconstitutional law overturned, as I'm sure NewEgg will hop on the 10th amendment defense bandwagon. Overall I think the guidelines will be clear in the end, if a warehouse/shop exists in the same state you live, you pay tax. If it doesn't then the state is out of luck unless the Feds decide to move to a national sales tax and scrap each states tax, which I doubt will happen anytime soon.

Overall...Go NewEgg!

Are Users Ready For 64-bit in Prime Time?

Posted 08/05/2008 at 11:36:41am

I've built multiple systems over the past 6 months, including my own gaming machine. I've consistently used Vista x64 and have had no major problems. Only a few minors with patches and updates that eventually fixed the issue. I truly think x64 is the way for the advanced user to go now a days, and perhaps in 1-2 years the average user can make the jump. With pretty much every new chip being 64 bit, you're really skimping yourself if you use a 32bit OS, especially for the techie "advance" users.

Actually all around no issue with Vista that were not application related. Everyone is quick to blame Vista but ALL of the issues I have run into in my experiences have been app related, or bad driver support from a vendor. Unfortunately poor Microsoft (extreme sarcasm including) takes the rap for all those crashes in the public eye
