Budget Badass Buyer’s Guide -- Updated Prices and Parts For October 2008
Posted 10/01/2008 at 09:08:25am
I think the guide should have the option between Dual & Quad. Your suggestion would work out great for the dual core choice.I have a Q6600 & utilization of each cores varies with the games & apps chosen.

Samsung Readies 16GB Memory Modules

This is great news since DDR3 RAM of lesser density will drop in price & allow DDR3 in general to go mainstream with such a technology release. When that happens, I'll probably switch over to the Core i7 after everything has panned out for the best (if it does...).

10 Things That You've Wildly Overhyped!

Windows 7, Milestone 3

Simply put, you have a very old PC. Why would you use Vista anyways? If your usage of your system doesn't go beyond what you're satisfied with, why are you complaining about an OS you won't touch? If you're going to get a new PC, do it for different reasons. As a gamer, I've used DX10 & see the graphical beauty of it. I upgrade hardware because I love gaming & trying out new hardware. That is why I've read Maximum PC for years. Older OSes are good for what they did but what I want to utilize now is way different than the feature sets that were given years ago. Today's PC utilize last-gen & current-gen OSes. 98SE will fly on any system since it's requirements to utilize its feature set isn't as demanding or oriented for today's computing.

How exactly does mere graphic files stop you from upgrading hardware? Why should the OS stop you from going with what you want? Power systems usually overcome whatever OS is running them in terms of slowdown. My own enthusiast system runs Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 like a beast & runs games extremely well. There's a lot of FUD going on whenever there's news on MS. People must be borrowing from Slashdot's userbase that's full of contempt for anything that is even remotely close to anything Windows & Microsoft. I'm not a fanboy but I do tire of seeing posts that don't go very far in explaining why conclusions have been met. This is Max PC afterall & despite the editors own claim of hate (& slow growing love) for Vista, I don't see how people can't overcome their prejudices for an OS that they've either used very little, not all, or just preach crap to undermine anything they don't understan. Let's start over & try looking at ALL OSes as having issues that need improvement. Not just one to be the scapegoat.

No one needs to be illiterate to see that your own grammar is horrid. All I see is a boatload of bias about a corporation & OS you obviously hate. I'm glad that MS is making changes & listening to people. They know that they need to change things or lose a whole market of enthusiasts, power users, & gamers. I've been using Vista since its release & think its way better than XP. Now that MS is showing improvements in 7, I'm prepared for a better experience overall. You're own opinion has its weight but don't go swinging it around like you're a eruditic lord of operating systems. As far as I can tell, you don't seem to grasp the strengths & weaknesses of Windows or Linux. Each serve a purpose & hold their own at the capacity they serve people with. Thanks, but I'll keep a positive outlook on what I have in the present & what the future holds.

GameStop PC Game Sales Down, But Still "Worth Hanging Onto"
Posted 09/19/2008 at 07:38:44am
They say one thing but do another. I won't be buying from them ever again, so I'll just stick with digital distribution & Best Buy. The people at the counters are usually hardcore console gamers & thus have a narrow view of what the PC gaming world is capable of. When Gamestop does (& will) kill off PC games in their store, is the day that I'll have no sorrow for a misguided company.
