Laptops in the Classroom – Help or Hindrance?
Posted 03/23/2009 at 03:12:52pm
I definetly agree that laptops can be a hindrance to learning when students get distracted. I'm on a school laptop right now (in class), but I'm done with all my work, so I'm good. Even so, a lot of people I see will be goofing off on the computer doing random websites.
I do agree thoguh that laptops should not be totally taken out of the school enviornment. They really help me get my work done fast.
Opera Uses Server Power to Speed up Browsing

Wow that is extremely useful. I tried it, and it works really well, and I can really notice a difference in load time! The only problem that I see with it is (and I know it's in beta) that right now the images get compressed far too much, and some of them are fine, but some of them are of very poor quality. '
But overall great idea!
Microsoft's Fears Realized: Netbooks are Killing Off Windows Laptops at an Alarming Rate
Posted 02/17/2009 at 05:22:17pm
I agree Linux can be a PITA sometimes, but usually it's not that hard. 99% of drivers atcually come with linux, so you don't need to do any cd inserting and running a setup program. In Ubuntu (and most user-friendly linux distros) Nvidia drivers are a snap, you go into Hardware Drivers, and you enable one for your videocard, logout-login, and your done. Although I know if it doesn't work, it can really screw up your computer and have you frustrated (but for me its always worked).
Microsoft's Fears Realized: Netbooks are Killing Off Windows Laptops at an Alarming Rate

From the looks of this article, it isn't really talking about linux and windows, just that netbooks are making up a lot of the laptop segment. But your assuming lots of them come with linux. They do, but more people like to buy Windows Netbooks. Also as another commenter said, people aren't very happy with netbooks. I don't know what people see in them. What I really don't like about netbooks is their keyboards also. Laptops are bad enough, but I can't stand netbook keyboards (I'm spoiled with my msft ergonomic 4000 keyboard :D).

My hard drive score has drastically reduced... on vista it used to be a 5.7 , but on Windows7 its a 3.

PC Sales Fell Sharply During the Holiday Season, Shocking Microsoft
Posted 01/15/2009 at 09:35:56pm
You realize it's not Microsoft's fault that OS'es are bloated? It's the systems' manufactuer's faults for putting a bunch of software on the system. If you build it yourself, I can easily see a $600 PC outperforming an XboX. You might say it's more expensive, but then again it can do a ton of more stuff as well (web browsing, photo/vid editing, google) like the other poster said.

Small Packages, Big Promises -- Netbook Review Roundup
Posted 01/06/2009 at 09:39:15am
This was posted in January 09, but before I remember it being in a Maximum PC magazine, so they might not have had a chance to review it. It would be really nice though, and I've heard a lot of good things about it. (The only reason why I wouldn't get it is incompatibillity with some Linux distros..)
