Dell XPS One 24
Posted 07/09/2009 at 09:06:19am
Just for spyware removal, but it was gorgeous. I would never buy an all-in-one for myself either, and still I had to go to the dell website to price them. One other bonus this machine has is that you could use the heat coming from the top to make beef jerky while it's running. I also worked on one of the HP's recently, and not only did they (wisely) put the PS in a separate brick, but they also put all the USB and network connections on it too, so you only have one cable to plug in. It looks much neater, but heaven help you when that thing breaks.

From the USB3.0 faq: http://www.lvr.com/usb3faq.htm#co_cables
Can I use USB 2.0 cables with a SuperSpeed host or device?Yes, but communications will use a slower speed. A USB 3.0 cable contains both SuperSpeed and USB 2.0 wires. USB 2.0 cables fit USB 3.0 receptacles and carry USB 2.0 traffic only.'

In concept. Which means that it will be hoovered up by Firefox in no time, and by IE a couple of years from now, once Microsoft gives up on trying to monetize the idea.

And Demonoid and everywhere else. You can also stream the whole thing for free on NPR.org. This kind of stunt worked extrememly well for Fiona Apple a couple of years ago, of course it was also a complete disaster for Marilyn Manson. You still have to make something people want to listen to first. I listened to the stream and liked it well enough. If you're a fan of Calexico or the Flaming Lips there is plenty for you to enjoy here. Also a pretty funny cameo by Iggy Pop basically complaining about being old.
Live Photo Gallery Vs. Picasa: Digital Photography in Windows 7
Posted 05/17/2009 at 04:25:13pm
I had to deal with .raw image viewing today as the final stage in hacking a CVS "disposable" camera. Irfanview with plugins and Fast were both useless. Picassa would display them, but with serious artifacts. The app that finally did it for me was RawDrop, which I found off a link from the wikipedia .RAW page. It's just a tiny little app, barely even a GUI and it's free. Why do Microsoft and all the other big names need to make this so complicated?
Time Warner is Looking to Spin off AOL – Can it Survive on its Own?

I encounter their customer base regularly in my line of work, and while they are unflappably loyal, they are also unquestionably senior citizens. They won't give up on AOL willingly, but time it against them.
