Direct2Drive $5 Sale Continues (to be Awesome)
Posted 09/22/2009 at 08:58:44am
I picked up Serious Sam last week on the $5 sale. Apparently, they have a download manager (similar to Amazon mp3 downloader), but for some reason it would not work/install on my computer (it probably has something to do with your choice of browser - I was either using Firefox or Chrome). So instead of using D2D download manager, I used the built-in download manager from the browser.
I know that what I downloaded was an executable file. I suspect that even with the download manager, you would download an executable.
After the download - install and play. I did have to activate the game online - I think through D2D servers because I don't think that Serious Sam requires online activation - it is an 8-9 year old game.
When launching the game, it's just like launching any program from your computer. No web/proprietary launcher. Nothing like Steam.
Save games are in ProgramFiles.
The Game Boy: Gamers' Favorite Copout

Did you know that Mormons are Christian? Have you ever heard of the actual name of our church:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
The Mormons number 1 goal is to preach of Christ, to persude repentance and continually follow Christ.
I don't know where you get this quasi crap.

New Mass Effect DLC Arrives Not with a Bang, But with a Whimper
Posted 08/26/2009 at 09:44:37am
I don't understand what all the fuss is about this game. Also, I am not hyped up at all about ME2.
- Repetitive missions
- Stupid space "exploration"
- Mako controls sucked
- Squad command system sucked - after half way through the game, I never issued orders, not really caring what they did.
- Bland emotions/dialouge
- there was no reason to put sex in the game (just a stupid way to sell to horny teenage boys)
- inventory sucked
I have to say - when the game shined - it really shined. Usually during heavy combat. Other than that - BLAH.
KOTOR had that "special something" that Mass Effect did not have.

Didn't you just post an entry last night stating the same thing and citing the same study?

Wolfenstein Has a Very Strange Money-Back Guarantee
Posted 08/13/2009 at 03:13:55pm
You bring up an excellent point.
The fact is, they probably already know how many units of Wolfenstein are being ordered by retailers and being shipped by the publisher.
They can then compare that to the units of Madden 10 being shipped (if they don't know the exact figure, they can estimate based on previous years).
So, this is probably an empty statement. And like someone here said, a way to get people to follow Ravensoft on twitter.
PC Gaming Alliance Loses Activision’s Support, Gains… SecuROM?

If you standardize PC hardware much more than it is... then you stifle inovation and progress.
PC Gaming Alliance Adds New Members
Posted 08/13/2009 at 10:30:21am
I can't think of a bigger unfriendly company to PC gaming than GameStop.
They don't sell used PC games. The PC games they do sell are overpriced. They pulled Dawn of War 2 (or was it Empire: Total War?) off the shelves before launch because they don't like the Steamworks activation.
Is Steam (VALVE) part of this alliance? If not, they should be.
Doom to Dunia: A Visual History of 3D Game Engines

If you look up "id tech 4" in wikipedia, you will find that the new Wolfentein is using id tech 4.
As far as I know, the only games that have been announced to use id tech 5 are Rage and Doom 4.
EVGA Announces Dual Monitor System

Gosh ... you know...The whole dual display is cool for work and productivity. But I could never see myself getting one for gaming. I cant get past the whole vertical black area in the middle of my game.
