7 Surprising Kick-Ass Things You Can Do with Google Sketchup
Posted 11/04/2009 at 08:53:23am
I tried unsuccessfully to use gmax, a watered down version of 3DStudioMax, to make 3D models of buildings to import into SimCity 4, but it wasn't until I started using SketchUp that I was able to really get my head around 3D modeling. SketchUp really takes all the frustration out of it. Great article! I'm gonna try and use some of the rendering suggestions.

Maximum Green: 5 Freeware Apps That Save the Environment (And Your Cash!)
Posted 04/27/2009 at 11:54:16am
Some helpful apps here, and I don't remember reading any other articles with this kind of information recently on Maximum PC. Although sneaking that one app in that keeps your hard drive spun up all the time was probably bending the rules a bit much. Also, what's the difference between the first two? Seems like they do pretty much the same thing to me.

Holy CRAP.

Brain Age Won't Actually Beef Up Your Prefrontal Cortex

So...
Their point is that playing Brain Age is no better than any other mentally challenging activity that causes you to think critically, expand your vocabulary or math skills, or work out the neural pathways of your brain?
Um... no shit?
Tie the Knot with Fujitsu's Laptop'4'Life Program, Get a New Laptop Every 3 Years Till Death Do You Part

Sounds too good to be true to me. However if the company really honors the intent of this deal, then I would LOVE to participate, even if there's a significant premium on the original purchase. Bring the deal stateside, please!
$800 Budget PC Buyer’s Guide -- Updated Prices and Parts For October 2008

Has anyone given any thought to archiving the old, previous versions of the articles for bargain-hunting purposes? I know that whenever a new, exciting chipset debuts, it's a great time to get the previous chipset for cheap... that's what I liked about the magazine Best of the Best. When a new item showed up, it was time to check last month's article and see what had been replaced and how little they were going for now.
So it would be nice to be able to see older versions of the list!
