Fed's Freezing Payment to Online Poker Players
Posted 06/11/2009 at 01:02:42pm
Talk about prosecutorial over reach! There is no justification for freezing all the accounts. If there is money laundering or illegal transactions then they should be addressed singularly, not by punishing the guilty and the innocent together. If this passes a District Court review then there is no holding back over zealous prosecutors. Get the advocacy groups in there to slap down this "request", the Duke LaCrosse case should remind us that there are consequences for abusing the prosecutor's powers.
Time: Vista One of Decade's 10 Biggest Tech Failures
Posted 05/15/2009 at 03:24:59pm
Vista would be a success except that with Win 7, MS is burying it. Its a case where it can't shake the perception, so they're going to try something else. The Mojave Experiment illustrated how the perception had become the reality for Vista. No matter how good it iis no one will believe it.
Apple Trying to Out-Obnoxious Microsoft with New Ad

Now this is entertainment! This is like a presidential debate where its more about the sound bite and image rather than the substance. I haven't seen two companies go after each other like this in quite a while. I guess PC didn't bring along an HP friend, seems all those laptop hunters walk off with an HP.

Apple Getting Ready to Design Their Own Chips
Posted 04/30/2009 at 04:06:24pm
If they're just mixing up their own batch of ARM licensed system on a chip soup then they'll just farm out the chip making to a foundry. Seems like a subtle difference between having someone design and build your SOC rather than designing it in house. We'll see what advantage they can bring off of this.
If they are going back on Intel and designing their PC CPUs in house, wouldn't they need a license for the x86 architecture to get anything to run? They'd have to have that to even begin to design their own CPU. Since AMD split off their design and manufacturing, it is conceivible that Apple could design a CPU then have a foundry build it. But that sounds nuts, even for Jobs. It would be a lot cheaper to buy Motorola and have them design and build theirĀ CPUs.

Sharp Mebius PC NJ70A Combines Trackpad and Secondary Display

Anyone notice the Vista in the pictures? Are they using Vista's built in but never used second display tech, or have they rolled their own solution?
HP Shaves $500 off of Firebird 802's Price Tag
Posted 04/21/2009 at 03:05:05pm
The all-in-one PC market I think would be LAN Party. How easy to tote something around the size of a 24" screen rather than a screen and a LAN Box? The Firebird has addressed the problem with gaming laptops and their cooling. Plus They can use a larger and better screen since they don't have to make it usable on the go.
I'd like to see what the other OEMs do to compete with this. Like most people reading this, I see it as a good template but want to bbe able to build one from scratch or do some heavy tweaking of components.
Is the Netbook Hysteria Starting to Wind Down?

Did you get it just to see what it was about, or did you get it to replace something? Do you think most netbook users realized the limitations when they got them?
Is the Netbook Hysteria Starting to Wind Down?

Is the market for netbooks saturated now? I think everyone who was updating from an old laptop to a netbook did it over the holidays.
