ATI HD Radeon 5870: The Fastest Videocard Ever (PS It's $380)

Thanks for clearing that up, I had the opinion that all frames per second are equal, but your explanation about static imaging clarifies it for me. That said, I still don't really notice much difference beyond 29.96 fps.

That's a bit harsh. Not many people complain about the film at the local cinema "chopping by" at 24-29.96fps (on 35mm flim). Typically, anything faster than 25fps is suitably imperceptible to most people. Naturally, there are people who are impossible to please.

British Weather Supercomputer Clinches "Worst Polluter" Crown

I would imagine that the expense of "upgrading" would be well worth the savings (at $0.07/kWh cost @1.2MW = $84/hr vs. @2.4kW $0.168/hr).
However, I'm inclined to go with penguinboy 156TFLOPS is much more reasonable for a supercomputer.

So this thing can do what equilibrates to 1 TFLOP (1000 * 10^9 = 10^12 = tera-). Pretty pathetic in the world of supercomputers.
An nVidia Tesla 1U server can crank out an average of 3.935 TFLOPS and it consumes 0.067% of the amount of power this weather supercomputer does. Hell even at double precision, you'd only need 3 of 'em and consume only 1,200 W...not 1,200,000 W.
As such, I'd venture that this thing is pretty old.

ACLU Warns of Privacy Concerns about Facebook Apps

Oh, come on, give the guy a break. Accronyms misspellings are especially difficult to catch since spellcheck doesn't catch them. Given the consistent use of the incorrect accronym I would venture that the author, along with ~5% of the US population, suffers from a lack of phonemic awareness.

I'm pretty certain that the correct accronym for "American Civil Liberties Union" is "ACLU". Any reason to not write it correctly?
At least the error is consistent.

Windows 7 Review: XP vs Vista vs 7 in 80+ Benchmarks
Posted 08/18/2009 at 08:06:01am
Sorry about the confusion, I was trying to say that "some" games are ported to PC half-assedly, e.g., Halo (the first one), where it was a direct port from the console, no extra hardware support, no recoding for the additional computing power, etc. Very much like when Metroid was ported over from the original NES to the GameCube you still get that wonderful slowdown 'cause too many sprites are on the screen at once, despite the GC being better than the NES.
I wasn't talking about a generalization that all games are better on consoles. I believe whole-heartedly that the majority of games that are ported well to the PC make their console counterparts pale in comparison. All of the computer processing power in the world is not going to make the original Halo look any different than that on the XBox, and that has nothing to do with the hardware, just how it's ported. Take a look at the upcoming Borderlands game, the PC version >> the console version, plus, it costs less!

Windows 7 Review: XP vs Vista vs 7 in 80+ Benchmarks

Windows is "the" computer gaming platform. I would venture an argument that the majority of MaxPC readers are gamers. Ultimately, until a more open API platform becomes widely accepted by the game development community Windows will always reign supreme. This is not to say that Wine, Cedega, and OSX have come a long way for gaming support; however, comparing Win7 to previous versions of Windows is the only way to do a fair comparison. Kludged API support and "second thought" porting, e.g., WoW in OSX vs. Win on the same hardware--typically, Win...wins (no pun intended), will never compare to running a game natively. Along these same lines, this is why some console games are "just better" compared to a Windows gaming rig running the same game despite the additional computing power.

Nope, still spelled wrong, he's talking about the sentence, "If you do not know whether you are a Qualifised (sic) Family Pack User..."
