News Corp Sites to Go Off Google in Months
Posted 11/13/2009 at 04:00:51pm
He'll see how many less readers he will have if he cuts Google out. Someone probably has a better understanding of this than I do, but it seems like The Wall Street Journal has a pretty good strategy going. Tease them with a small blip of the article that they can still find on Google, but if they want to be able to read the entire thing they need to pay. Of course, like the article stated, there are ways around that, but there's always going people that find a way around it. This just seems to be the best strategy to me. Please respond if you disagree or just have a comment.

I've bought USB transfer cable before, but I had to install software on both PCs that I was going to connect the cable to before being able to transfer anything. I found that to be pretty annoying, so I just wanted to know if there is mandatory software that needs to be installed for this to work or will it work right out of the box by plugging it in?
Any help is appreciated.
Paypal Quietly Adds New Fees to Personal Accounts
Posted 08/11/2009 at 04:24:44pm
So, this mean pretty much anything you purchase from a website is going to get charged an extra 2.9%? What a rip. The only reason I used Paypal is so I didn't have to type in my credit card number when I bought something. Now my bank lets me create alternate credit card numbers with limits as to how much can be spent using them and a time limit as well.
I still liked using Paypal because of the convenience, but this NEW fee is just a reason for me to start using my bank more instead of Paypal. I don't think Paypal realizes how much business this will cost them once people start becoming more aware of this fee.
EDIT: Now I"m confused, after visiting their website here: https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside. It says that purchasing items is free. It says you are charged 2.9%+.30USD when you make a personal transfer from your credit or debit card or Paypal credit. So does it charge me 2.9% on new purchases or not???Thermaltake BigTyp 14 Pro

I'm not sure if you subscribe to the magazine or not, but I think in this month's issue (or last month's) they reviewed the Thermalright Ultra-120 extreme. They also reviewed a Scythe (I think, but can't remember which one). If it helps, it was a similar design to the TRUE, but not as tall, it was wider though. I tried searching for the review on the website and couldn't find it.
Forgive me, but I'm somewhat pleased about that. I have no problem paying the small price they charge for their magazine, but it kind of irks me when I read the website and it has word for word the same articles (most of the time before I get my magazine). I do love having the magazine though, keep up the good work MPC.

Earthmine Allows you to Unleash Virtual Graffiti on San Francisco

I'm just saying I don't want to give gangs anymore space to spread their gang affiliation.

I'm not a gamer by any means, but I don't like the sound of this idea. Sure it might make this game more realistic, but do you really want to see some gang's tagging all over some building. I don't know if gang members are smart enough to play video games, but for arguments sake let's say they are. If this must be a feature in this game, I hope the creator will police this feature by making sure any of the known gang or tagging crew names are not allowed to be written (e.g. 18th street, crips, bloods, etc.).
I'm all for creativity, but not for another place where gangs can tag and I also don't want gamers to act like virtual gang members by tagging some gang name on a building. I'd rather see "Pwn" or "0wn" or some gamer jargon like that.
World's Slimmest Flash Drives Look Like Credit Cards

I wonder how strong and flexible it is. I don't know about the rest of you, but I put my wallet in my back pocket. I would worry every time I sit down if I cracked it or not. Anybody have any info as to their flexibilty?

Yep, you were correct, thanks. After a little digging, I found I could make backups of the driver files and apps then reboot and hit a key when prompted. However, my old Gateway laptop still needs the restore discs in order to restore like new (had to order from Gateway). I was hoping I could burn my entire restore CD/DVD's on my own, but I think that's only on the newer ones. Time for a new laptop? Wish I had the money.
Cooler Master Announces HAF 922 Mid Tower
Posted 04/30/2009 at 11:32:54am
Do you really look at this as the little brother? Man, this looks like a great deal. The only size difference between this mid-tower HAF and the full-tower HAF is that the "mid-tower" is WIDER. It is shorter by 2.3, but I don't see that really being much of a problem. They have the same depth as well. I just can't see why someone would get the full-tower over this mid-tower. I mean, if it's wider you probably have more room to put a larger CPU heatsink/fan in there. I guess the difference in height might make it a little tougher to store a reservoir in there, but I can't think of anything else. Can anyone give me another reason why one would go with the full HAF instead of the mid HAF? I would appreciate your input.
