IE 9 Won't be Supported by XP
Posted 03/17/2010 at 04:15:05pm
IE6 and Konqueror (KDE3) FTW! (without considering real, not IE/IE's equivalent web browsers)
But really, what kind of XP user wants to upgrade that browser?

New Hard Drives May Force XP Users to Upgrade to 7
Posted 03/10/2010 at 05:06:54pm
Actually, I ran 98 when XP came out and for a little while after that.
Also, wouldn't it be possible to just format the drive from Linux with 4K blocks and then install XP? I remember that it was able to format my external disk with 4K blocks, so wouldn't it keep Linux's formatting if I chose?
Valve to Bring Steam to Mac Platform
Posted 03/09/2010 at 03:29:25pm
According to the Valve announcement they are able to port it to the Mac natively because they now (can) use WebKit and OpenGL, which are also available on Linux. Port to Linux pl0x
Edit: And as for distro incompatibility, they could use a binary like Uplink or NVidia does (maybe a self extracting .sh?).
Fun Fact: LGA775 Processors Cling to 77 Percent Market Share

Heh, I just upgraded my Intel Extreme board to an NVIdia 790i Ultra so I could use DDR3 2000MHz RAM with my overclocked SLACR. Also, I'm sure there are people who like the cheap $40 dual core Pentiums.
China Denies any Involvement in the Cyberattacks on Google
Posted 01/25/2010 at 06:23:27pm
Sure, the "accusation that the Chinese government participated in (any) cyberattack, either in an explicit or inexplicit way, is groundless and aims to denigrate China" is true, but the following are as well:
The accusation that the Chinese government orchestrated (any) cyberattack, either in an explicit or inexplicit way, aims to proclaim China's wrongdoing.
The accusation that the Chinese government spearheaded (any) cyberattack, either in an explicit or inexplicit way, aims to proclaim China's wrongdoing.
The accusation that the Chinese government organized (any) cyberattack, either in an explicit or inexplicit way, aims to proclaim China's wrongdoing.
PC Gamers are Flocking to Windows 7 in Droves According to Steam

Considering XP is nearly 10 years old and still has double the users 7 has (which has been out for a while now) I find that 7 adoption is quite slow.

Verizon Eyes Customers Suspiciously, Raises FiOS ETF
Posted 01/19/2010 at 03:05:08pm
I really don't see why $360 seems "illegal;" look how much Verizon is spending. If you make them pay 2 grand to set up your house (adding some of the cost for the pole fiber), they definitely deserve atleast that measly amount should you decide to cancel before they get any money back. Verizon probably is the best ISP in the US in terms of speed and not giving into the feds, so why would anyone want to cancel? If you're running out of money, don't get $120/mo. service. Duh. And the best part: the price doesn't soar after a year or so like some other unnamed ISPs do. They actually upgraded my service FOR FREE from 5/2 to 15/5, after which I chose to pay a little extra for 25/15. And yes, the servers usually cap; just use Torrents whenever possible. I get my full 3.1 MB/s.
They mess up my bill to, as well. ;)
Cheap and NASty - How to Build an Open Source FreeNAS Server
Posted 12/02/2009 at 02:44:32pm
Indeed 64 bit is supported. Download the AMD64 CD and you're good to go. I think the other poster means that FreeNAS will not require that much memory as the disk(s) are most likely faster than your network connection, thus caching data will not provide noticeable boosts in performance. Also note that the OS doesn't even use 100 MB of RAM itself.
