Murphy's Law: No BitTorrent Tracker? No Problem!

Posted 11/18/2009 at 12:53:29pm

DHT is much better in theory, however, one question i have for it is whether or not we can tell what downloads actually have seeders and leachers. One thing i'm sure of is that when a site will tell you this general poplulation estimate, it's from all of the trackers involved. In turn this may cut down on the amount of torrents there are, granted that if it has no more seeders, it will be removed from the list.

Windows 7 OEM EULA Excludes Home Builds not for Resale

Posted 11/16/2009 at 02:20:00am

I hope for Microsoft's sake that the wording was just off, because in the long run this will put microsoft in a stickier position than they would anticipate. Anyone who can install their own OS doesn't need "Help Topcis" or the phone support from Bombay, since they won't get any answers that will help them. The long run for this is that they want the retail edition to actually sell. Where i work, we don't even offer the retail edition, it's all OEM because the cost is about $50+ more for packaging and a 1 year warranty type deal, which in the long run isn't worth it because EVERYONE hates calling those call centers for whatever Microsoft has them doing it for, be it code activations to "tech support" to complaints. This is a disappointing prospect for Microsoft to take for many of the people who build our own machines. I prefer custom builds for cheaper costs and to get ONLY what i need/want out of my build. I don't want excess packaging. It's bad enough that i have a motherboard box, video card box, heatsink box, processor box, ram packaging, fan packaging, giant case box, power supply box, and tons of spare zip ties, and packaging for each item including static bags and other plastic bags, then foam and junk, and most people tend to keep it for a couple weeks at minimum until they're sure that everything works fine. I keep mine for about a month. Now i have to keep that stupid ass microsoft plastic box for a year, laying around on a shelf? Just for when i need a problem fixed, i do it myself with google.ca? Nah, i want my OEM, and I'll keep getting my OEM, or I'll go onto Linux for more than 60% of my desktop usage.

Saw this one coming, does anyone feel like this is familiar? *Cough*Starcraft II*Cough*

If it's Activision wanting a console version, they're gonna ruin the game so it can port to consoles. It's gonna be annoying as hell. Wasn't there already a console Diablo game? and it flopped if I remember right.

Murphy's Law: Gaming? Open? Ha!

Well, this is where it's going, a whole digital world. Xfire, my favorite chat program, now has a store. With all these direct 2 download sites, there needs to be a universal solution, otherwise we will all have many accounts. Sure, Battle.net can be its own, and i like how it's done because they manage their games and their games only, Valve used to do only Valve games on steam, but with Modern Warfare 2 needing to be registered on steam, it's pushing the program to become the top of it all.

Great article Murphy, once again making me think/start myself into what could have been a long, long comment.

I have been noticing this first hand with all th 5xxx series cards. Both where I work and where I have been shopping around to keep up on prices. Nobody has them hardly, and if they do, they're on a shortage, however we seem to get them in quite regularly too...

Intel is working on a solution to nation wide WiFi. It is called WiMAX. It is basically a series of wireless towers overlapping the signal over a city.

This shabby treatment is astonishing me. It's a video game, and movies don't get thrown into this rating system? It's sad, and if there is an online petition, I would sign it. Now question is, would a petition work? Something has to be done, this is starting to sound like Korea banning Ghost Recon because of a fictional war taking place in that country.
