Dream Machine '08
Posted 09/01/2008 at 01:22:52am
Dream machine 2008 is no doubt a nice rig.....but $17,000 for a rig that can't beat your Q6xx zero point rig in Crysis is just plain sad. The people who buy high end ethusiast rigs are "generally" gamers.....26fps is Crysis....something is wrong there folks. It IS pretty though :) I run a AMD 5000+ OC'd to 3.2Ghz, with a SINGLE GTX 280 and I can get better Crysis frame rates than that....even on high settings.
Vista PCs Being Downgraded at Sinister Gait
Posted 08/30/2008 at 04:11:48am
Vista = Windows ME ...just 5-7 years later.....every other OS from Microsoft is a piece of cr*p. It all about bottom line. People who fell for the hype arent going to NOW say Vista sux....
IF Vista was so great MS wouldn't have HAD to tie DX10 and certain games to it to sell it......it would have sold itself. Even MS knows its just the latest Windows ME....
Look at MS's OS history.....
3.1 good OS
95 bad OS
95 OS1 or w/e good OS
98 bad OS
98SE good OS
ME horrible OS
XP great OS
Vista....fill in the blank
Windows 7 SHOULD be good OS...but ya never know
No matter what MS says...they are a business and their highest priority is their bottom line....period!
Sure lotta people got infected on XP...but a lotta people are idiots too.....in 7 years I havent had one infection that lasted more than about a millisecond, before one of my security apps nabbed it.
What I don't understand is why OS manufacturers always try to decide whats best for us...there should be a law prhibiting OS manufactures from making decisions about what's best for the consumer....for example...since when did pics and thumbnails become easier to understand than plain old text? Further I don't WANT everything on my system irrevocablly shared, bound together, hooked into everything. It doesnt make sense. You DO manage to get an infection...it 500 times harder to remove. Maybe I'm old school but I like to CONTROL my OS...I don't want or need help with that. I don't WANT web this and that infused with every app on my system....the web is where the cooties are.....always ON internet connection...idiotic...
I don't know about anyone else but I can read a XP classic start menu faster than any1 can deal with the Vista start menu.....maybe because I learned to READ first...it aint just OS's either...its a world wide disease...buy a new car....which is simpler...little icons or heat/cold/vent...I don't like the o and 1 for on/off...on /off is self exlapnatory....I constantly have to "remember" which is on or off with the 0/1 system.
I think it time to get back to basics....write and OS with evrything OFF and allow the customer to CHOOSE which services he/she wants running....system restore is a joke....any decent hacker will infest the system volume information folder first.....what we need is a basic OS with unlimited options (OFF by default).....
Last but NOT least....who the hell thought up.....MS's KB iformation....its all but indecipherable....and making all devices in your house sync to one another is simply retarded...its been proven 1000 times over that component devies perform better.
...and when will the stards industry decide on one format for audio and video....its simply ridiculous....pick a format and stick to it....we don't NEED 57 diferent players/codecs and porpritory formats....just one )that works will do...same with image files....pick a standard and stick with it....how would you like it if the same reasoning was applied to cras (for example.....) car A runs on this fuel, car B runs on another fuel...it insane. We needs to get back to our roots....one audio format....one video format etc....when you buy a car it comes in a basic version and options are.....welll optional....OS's shud be the same way.
In short....dont make my OS's options pre proscribed....let ME choose....if I want to tie my ausio, video, cell phone all together ...make it an option....not the default. Evvry OS I've had the pleasure of using....assumes I'm a neo tech, all in one, user....I'm NOT! When I build a computer I buld it for a purpose...Every OS released has to be beat into submission......no I don't WANT outlook express...I want webmail......once the eamils are ONTO my system (aka outlook express) those sel same emails are already 1/2 way INTO my system.....DUMB......Windows messenger...a joke....can you say....paint a target on my comp and lable me idiot?
Well thats my 4 cents.....hopefully users and OS maufacturers will one day see the light.
Honestly how many (do everything hardware store tools...are worth a cr*p.....?)
Anyways I'm tired now and tired of trying to point out that seperated componet devices are far superior to multi funtion devices......WAIT lemme get my hammer/pliers/toothpick tool and try to do any related tasks as well as a plain hammer, plains pliers, plain toothpick will do the job.
Get a clue "indutry" develope a standard and stick to it......I DARE anyone to find a 500$ comp speaker system that will beat a dedicated stereo sytem.

Disgusted, dissallusioned and plain old pissed off. Get a clue people!

BFG GeForce GTX 280 OC 1GB
Posted 08/06/2008 at 08:00:02am
where u buy GTX 280's ....really on the street? Newegg has them for 450 nowaday and at least EVGA is offering 125 cash back for the early adopters that payed 600 for the cards....
I 2nd the motion that if ur gonna bench GPU's then play fair...number of cards dont count...number of GPU's is what matters...put TWO GTX 280's against the 4870 X2 not one....thats plain lame
...and unless you are trully trying to Nvidia bash ...quit sayin they run hot....with only 5x 80mm case fans and the vid card fan at 90% I cant GET the GTX280 above 45-46C
Exclusive: We Build the First Nehalem System. Don't Tell Intel!
Posted 08/06/2008 at 07:49:15am
at least SOMEONE besides ASUS put the ram and Vid card slots facing the same direction....bout f***ing time :/
looks like Intel still playing the: "if you want our new chip you're going to have to buy all new hardware and software" ...thats just sad.....3 Yachts isn't enough...or am I behind in the count :/
Personally I hope AMD knocks the stuffing out of Intel ...at least they try to remain backwards compatible.
I still think they should just make CPU cards like ...well a video card, and dispense with forcing people to toss out perfectly good hardware everytime they release a new proc.
Celebrate Freedom With Firefox Extensions

There are only two Firefox extensions worth even the free price tag.....Fatser Fox and Ad block Plus. Other than these, one can tweak Firefox to do almost anything with the about: config....nuff said!
Software News, April 2008 Edition
Posted 04/26/2008 at 07:48:29am
Lets see....MS releases XP SP3 which noone even needs....Apple forces Safari on people. When are consumers going to wake up? You don't need 1/2 the crap that large companies put out. Im so sick of MS, Apple, and even Linux (but not for the same reason). The only problem I still see with Linux is when are they gonna learn to spell? WTF does sudo mean anyways? As for MS and Apple, they're just out of control! Every company in the news, is acting like two year olds. No you can't use my driver on your' system.....no we MUST have 32 billion codecs, no you must spend many $$ just to run an MS OS that noone wants and doesn't even work properly. Quicktime is 75% spyware as is WPM, where is the U.S. government lately? Where is the Supreme Court? Where is the intelligent consumer? And for gawds' sake and (off topic) how many more years must I wait for ALL case manufacturers to put all those tiny cables into one big connector? Where is the Bureau of Standards anyways? This whole industry is getting WAY out of hand and its all going to come crashing down around our heads...when some beneficent programmer finally gets fed up and codes an OS that simply works with ALL components and scales for the lowly to the enthusiast to the corporate consumers. We have the technology to do it, and do it in english. Popeye wouldn't put up with this crap and neither should anyone else. Lets apply the computer industries standards to...lets say....our Armed Forces...... Sorry Sir, I can't shoot the enemy my firmware isn't updated! Get a clue people...YOUR' money is what the industry wants....so YOU have the upper hand. The Bureau of Standards was created for a reason, who remembers what that reason was? I want to meet the person that goes to the supermarket and lays down hard cash for 1/2 processed food...aka fish with bones, meat with worms, rotten fruit etc. You don't let the supermarket do that, but then turn right around and let the computer industry do it to you and then brag to your' friends what a wise consumer you are. Lastly....Microsoft you aren't fooling anyone...it isn't "tick, tock" it's really "crap, 1/2 crap, crap, 1/2 crap" ad infinitum. LMAO.....Sim City works on any system....no bugs, no updates, no patches etc. Sure WoW is a much more complicated program...but the principle is the same. Would YOU buy a car with no wheels or no dashboard? Of course not. So why do you rush out and buy 1/2 baked software. Time to wake up and smell the coffee people....time to let YOUR' money speak for you. I'm truly glad im 51 years old and smoke cigarettes and eat badly....at least I'll be dead when they invent the must-have stool monitor...that of course will require 3 codecs, multiple updates and 17 patches before it operates correctly. Lemmings aren't even as stupid as the U.S. consumer. When you have 15 year old code modders that can put that extra polish on a piece of software that 47 200K/yr coders can't...there's a BIG problem. As a finish to my "rant" ....to all those who bought their ISP's Security Software....don't EVEN complain when your' inbox is filled with spam emails. Oh wait...my bad....I can still fork over 30-70$ a year for non-ISP security software, that actually doesn't let my ISP read every damn thing I send over the internet, and then sell that info to other companies that will fill my inbox even faster....and then allow my ISP to save the day with even more craptacular Security Programs that THEY are causing the need for in the first place. I'll bet anyone any amount that I can keep my calendar, address book etc, up to date with a 59 cent notebook and a pencil in half the time they can do it with a $1,600 Ipod/pad/UMPC etc and mine will be MORE secure. GET A CLUE PEOPLE...don't be a lemming!
Here Comes Vista SP1, Automatically
Posted 04/26/2008 at 06:47:35am
Did I miss a podcast or something? Since when does the retailer tell the consumer "this is how YOU must behave, if you want our continued support" Whats next, Burger King telling me what make of shoes I can wear in their establishment? "Oh, I'm sorry sir, but you're wearing Reeboks...no napkins for you! Is the consumer going brain dead? JUST SAY NO!!!
Can Someone Please Explain Why I Should Be Interested in Microsoft's Mesh?
Posted 04/26/2008 at 06:28:38am
Yea...thats what I want the ability to access MY files when MY computer is off. A global mesh network would be a fine thing, IF and only IF....MY files remain secure. The entire world seems to be moving towards uber-sharing! Can YOU say identity theft or NO privacy? Oh I can't wait to store my Turbo Tax information on some strangers server. The worst part...Microsoft is leading the way.... I continually have to beat WMP with an ugly stick to keep it from accessing the internet, when all I want is to play a song. Mesh network...who cares? I want my files on MY comp and UNACCESSIBLE by anyone but me. Sure, I'll bet money MS guarantees secure file access....lolololololol!!! In the 30 or so years I've worked on and with computers I have yet to see a truly secure system or network. Now all you sheep line up and say baaaaaa :/
Diablo III? So Soon?
Posted 06/07/2007 at 01:10:08am
I wonder, will Blizzard cross over to the Darkside if/when they release DIII? Pay to play is for fools. It costs like .11cents to make a game CD(s). The OTHER $49.88 SHOULD be for server upkeep. I'm truly worried that the days of free-to-anything, are going, going..... :/ Sure you can play for free.....you can't level up or win a duel though. Somehow, we the consumers, better start "talking with our wallets" or they will start charging for email :/ Side Rant: Don't buy VISTA or MS will just take longer to write the NEXT OS...the one that Vista was supposed to be.
