Study Finds CD Sales Still Strong in the Face of Digital Downloads

Posted 07/16/2009 at 11:13:57am

I'd prefer the option of a lossless codec to mp3. Plus I'm a bit of a control freak when it comes to cd rips, I just don't trust the quality of others, even corporations. There's also the issue of first sale and fair use rights in regards to digital content in general.

We have raido and internet radio plus quite a few other legal outlets for musicians to get their music out there.

Ever heard of a boycott? There are legal ways to hit em in the wallet. Get organized and put up petitions or boycott them. Talk to your congressman and representatives about the issue.

Entertainment is a real job and has been throughout history. They deserve to get paid for their work just as much as any other professional. If you don't like what they're selling, then you don't buy it.

While I agree they missed an opportunity at a new source of revenue and only made things worse for them, you're still a thief. No matter how you justify it.

ALso, if you only cared about 2 songs on a cd you've got plenty of options to buy just those 2 songs, such as Amazon, iTunes and several other distributors that let you buy per track rather than a whole cd.

If that's the case, one might as well click off every drive letter in the list that's not currently in use.

I'm wondering though if you just go to the My Computer>Autoplay>Types menu and just unchecked "Enable autoplay for removeable drives" would disable autoplay for usb drives as well?

In TweakUI for XP I only see my optical drive, hard drives and a few card readers. I don't see any drive letters for USB ports. How do you disable autoplay for usb ports in XP?

Steam's Weekend Deal Will Blow Your Mind

You can only gift Half Life 2 and Episode 1 provided you already had them on your account before you bought the Orange Box. If that is the case, then you can find your gifts listed under Games Menu>Manage Gifts and Guests Passes. You can either send them to an existing Steam account or to a friend's email and they'll get all the info they need to download and create a Steam account as well as activate the gift on Steam.

Orange Box is tied to Steam even if you buy it retail so you wind up using Steam regardless if you get it retail or digital. Plus during install the first update is mandatory. Also, if you want to play TF2 all updates are mandatory.

In this case, you're stuck dealing with digital either in future installs or patches.

Steam's Weekend Deal Will Blow Your Mind

I used to get motion sickness in Half Life 2 on the highway level back when I had a 21" crt and that was with most settings maxed. That was when driving the dune buggy though. When I got a 24" widescreen lcd I fired up HL2 and didn't get sick during that level, but before then it was hell to play through it.
