I like Gary, he brings something different to the table, & the man has  lot of histroy in the games/comics business too, so his opinion is worth respecting. The next gen podcast, while it was running, was always worth listening to.

Richard.

This weeks podcast was good. But I liked last weeks all singing edition as well. I thought it was rather brave. Bugger all those negative people who cried like babies, its free guys! You ain't paying shit so you can't sook!

On another subject, question for fellow listeners, can anyone recomend a good avi/DVD to PSP video convertor?

Keep up the good work, the podcast rocks weather it is sing or talking!

No BS Podcast #87: The Zombie Defense Initiative Edition

Posted 11/25/2008 at 04:53:56pm

Thanks for the info Keith, quite intersting, I always thought the .45 had more grunt, i stand corrected. I know the Australia Army in the second world war initially used the Thompson but found them unreliable, and instead designed and locally manufactured the "Owen gun" (named after the designer) it was reputed to be able to be fired after being submerged in muddy water.

It comes down to velocity verses projectile weight I suppose. Apparently some special forces in the middle east (Australian SAS in Afghanastan I think) have stopped using the HK MP-5 (9mm) and switched to the AR-15 (5.56mm) carbine for improved hitting power.
After seeing what a .357 mag can do, I could definitly recomend one of those as a sidearm.
As far as locations of refuge during the Zombie Apocalypse, I am a fan of the small to medium shopping centre (mall).

Cheers,
Richard

PS - if you are going to cancel the podcast can you guys please post a warning.

No BS PodcastI wouldn't call a .22 quick on
No BS Podcast #87: The Zombie Defense Initiative Edition

Posted 11/24/2008 at 09:06:17pm

I wouldn't call a .22 quick to reload, the ammo is tiny & actually quite annoying to stuff in a clip (in the past I did a lot of target pistol shooting, 9mm and .45 was easier to load into a clip than .22). In the Zombie Apocolypse you may have a lot of ammo, but chances are you may only have so many clips, so instead of dropping them on the ground like the movies, you may have to manually reload them.

I think sniping would be very relevent during a zombie apocolypse, If I was trying to forage for supplies it would be handy having a buddy watching my back from up on high.

In the slightly ludicrous catagory, something like a Thompson sub machinegun circa WW2 would be quite good, it can be fired from the shoulder, and at short to medium range (within a building, confined urban environment)very efective, the .45 acp carries a decent punch. Very 'Call of Duty', getting one might be a problem though.........

 Cheers,

Richard.

No BS Podcast #87: The Zombie Defense Initiative Edition

Yes you can kill a cow with a .22; if you press it up against or very close to its head. Move much further away,  the ballistic energy drops away, and the bullet will fail to penatrate. It take a higher calibre for Deer (for bigger Deer, .270 & up) because you are shooting at a distance, the bullet has to travel 100 or 200 yards or more and still maintain the energy to pentrate thick bone etc. Somebody quoted the figures of a 120 foot lbs of energy for a .22, that is measured at the muzzle, every yard beyond that point there is energy loss. Compare this with a .357 mag handgun, which has between 500-600 foot lb at the muzzle and a .44 mag which approaches 800+ foot lbs, and you get an idea of how low powered the .22 is. The .223 has anywhere up to 1300 ft lbs, & at 300 yards is still carrying around 4 times the muzzle energy of the .22 .

In short, yes you could kill Zomies with a .22, but you risk letting them get to close. Use a .223 or a .308 and you can (with the .308 and telecopic sights) kill out to 1000 yards.

Cheers,

Richard.

No BS PodcastParis & crap on
No BS Podcast #87: The Zombie Defense Initiative Edition

Posted 11/23/2008 at 08:13:50pm

It is true Paris does have a lot of dog shit, Vienna was the same. Berlin was ok as the turds were frozen solid(it was winter).

All these people saying how great the .22 is, please, they are only good for rabbits and other small game; don't expect mutch hitting power beyond 75 metres. The .223 (5.56mm NATO) would be the best option. There is literally tons of the ammo around, and it is still quite light (compared to 7.62mm) to carry.

In regards to melee, how about a Samuri Sword?

Cheers,

Richard.
