Static Prevention
Posted 10/25/2009 at 12:14:19pm
I work in a lab where we use latex gloves all the time and I know they can build up a static charge. We weigh out powders and the materials can fly off the balance and stick to your gloves if you don't keep up with the staticide.
We also test conductivity of gloves and most do not conduct well, therefore they can build up a charge easily even when you are grounded with a wrist strap.
On the computer side I don't wear a strap eaither. I just make sure to rest my elbows on the case whenever I reach inside. Insuring that the case and me are at the same voltage I never get a spark when components come together. Again, that's just me, coincidence does not equal causation.

Its already been established that the password is covered under the 5th amendment to refuse to incriminate one's self. Even if I were constitutionally required to give up my password, I might have just forgotten it. Its a pretty big password.

WTF is wrong with Apple? Yah, I got an iPod, but I don't want your damn browser. What does internet browsing have to do with loading songs on my mp3 player? Can somebody point me toward a site that shows how to disable Apples force-feeding updater so it will stop bugging me to install their hacked-in-20-minutes browser?
It's Hard Out There for a Pirate/Medic
Posted 04/16/2008 at 07:45:23pm
Well, I was excited about the medic weapons, but not anymore. I was pumped when I read about the permanent health double gun and was going to be all over the achievements. Now I guess I'll get them if I get them, the Crit gun is the only thing that I see as being useful. The others are "oh, by the way you got a little extra health/uber-charge by accident cause a spy walked in front of you."
Daily News Brief: Apple Considers Unlimited iTunes Plan

"did not have a workforce reduction." I work for a large enough company to see this every few years. They have different names for laying off people. Voluntary Separation Package (VSeP), Workforce Restructuring, Retirement Incentive Program (RIP, I like that one). Also, each department is funded for X number of full time employees. But if a department has 3 job vacancies open for hiring, those get cut first and nobody actually has to go. Some are better than others, some offer money and benefits if you volunteer to leave, but a "workforce reduction" usually doesn't. So they may have reduced head count by 5% but it could have been voluntary or not real people. Besides, my company is in the midst of a 10% reduction and hasn't made the news, 5% isn't AMD turning evil.
