Windows 7 Public Beta Released

Posted 01/08/2009 at 02:53:14am

There are already Technet copies of Windows 7 Beta X64 Build 7000 flooding the bittorrent websites. So yes it's build 7000 but what's neato is that both 32bit and 64bit versions are available and from what I read MS will only allow 2.5 million downloads to the general public starting this Friday. Also from what I read this version only supports an upgrade from Windows Vista SP1. I think that you can still do a clean install but if you want to upgrade then you need Vista SP1.

Of course I would recommend only those people that do not know how to use bittorrent to download the beta from MS website. The rest of us should climb onto thepiratebay.org or demonoid.com this way that 2.5million downloads will go the furthest.

AMD Strikes Back with Phenom II -- Full Analysis and First Benchmarks!

Posted 01/08/2009 at 02:34:50am

It's good to see AMD still around but I believe they should have scrapped Phenom altogether and built an all new power house CPU. People are just going to continue buying Intel parts because Intel will just lower the price on it's CPU's to make sure people don't see AMD CPU's as an alternative to Intel. So AMD is still doing it's job to keep CPU prices down through competition with Intel it's not going to survive unless they start thinking performance.

So I'm sticking with Intel hardware until AMD can do better than this. This isn't even trying.

Seagate Stores More in Less Space with New 1TB Drive

As for performance you notice speedier response when you say open a directory full of MP3's. I don't know what the actual read and right will be but those numbers should be a little better than the 7200.11 as the heads can access more data on just two platters than having to scrounge around on 3 or more but what I'm interested in is this. Take 4 of these platters and what do you get? You get a 2TB hdd. I've had 4 platter HDD befor and there is nothing wrong with them they work just fine. I'll take tons of storage at a slight performance cost but then again that performance can be mitigated by the circuitry on the HDD controller and the type and ammount of Cache and the interface used.

Also why are HDD's stuck at 7200RPM's only or 10,000RPMs as the next step up? Why not think outside the box. Why not make HDD's that have a 9,000RPM spindle speed or slower or faster? Why do HDD manufacturers have to follow the standards? I say screw the standards and just make a huge HDD and then tweak the hell out of it for all out performance with acceptable error rates.

Well I've got a Seagate 500gb 7200.11 32mb cache hdd that's just at one year old now and it's been great. I'm going to hold off on getting another 1tb hdd as my Samsung F1 died shortly after birth and I just haven't the money right now. But I'm saving my pennies and look forward to purchasing a 2TB hdd when it comes out and it sounds like just a few months down the road and we'll be playing with them.

The Saitek Cyborg Gaming Keyboard $79 dollars at Frys.com has three colors that you can cycle through and check this out I think that you can use all three at the same time on different areas of the keyboard. I was actually going to buy this keyboard but decided on the Logitech Desktop Wave keyboard because I loved the feel of the keys and the shear classy looks and out right awesomeness of the Wave. It just feels great to type with my keyboard and it's only $49bucks at the Frys Store. Here's the URL for the Saitek at Fry's http://shop4.frys.com/product/5611371?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Since I am no longer capable of editing my post I will post a note that I have discovered that there are two G15 Keyboards. One is the G15 gaming keyboard that costs lots of cash. Then there is the G15 keyboard that costs $40bucks at Wal-Mart. I discovered this just now as I downloaded the latest Mouse/keyboard setpoint software from Logitech.com. It does appear that the G15 keyboard has fewer features than the Gaming G15. But both have LCD screens but the G15Gaming keyboard has a larger LCD. Not that that matters to me. But I'm sure others love it and to those I say Goody goody.
