Five Ways to Save the PC Gaming Alliance

This is a few of the reasons the console has the PC in a headlock. I've already brought these up, but here is another PC guy saying some of the same things and damn he is angry!! http://pc.ign.com/articles/856/856392p1.html

Nobody cares about a fanboy on
Five Ways to Save the PC Gaming Alliance

As I said in my first post. It's not about fanboyism. But that is the first thing that tends to happen. People immediately start to console bash. But it's not about "you", its about making the PC competetive with the console and bringing new blood to the PC market. In case you haven't noticed THE PC IS NOT COMPETETIVE with the console in the market. IT'S LOSING THE WAR! The market data shows it, and the PC media, industry insiders and PC developers are finally getting around to admitting it! They're trying to stop it so the alliance was formed. The main reason I don't believe the alliance will accomplish anything is because all those involed have an agenda, some of them are competitors, and it will require sacrifice! Who is leading this thing? Who is gonna be the first to step-up and sacrifice money or market share if it comes to that? Microsoft? The two headed monster who has fully embraced the console and has their hands in both pies. They no longer really care about PC gaming because that PC game is most likely on the 360 and is selling a helluva lot better on the console anyway (COD4 anyone?). They absolutely LOVES the 360 and Xbox live and won't do anything to hurt it, just ask Mark Rein! What about Mark Rein? Do you think that he'll "stop" making console games and give up all that console money? Nope!! Nvidia, AMD/ATI are gonna still pump out rehashed cards with different stickers and clock speeds. But just a teeney weeney bit better than the last set to keep the PC gamer in that vicious circle (Dx10.1 anyone LOL!). The rest are all competitors with agendas and bottom lines. Did you know (according to the Neilson ratings) that out of the top ten most played PC games last year, 4 were console ports? Of those four, two of them were Halo games! Halo beat out CS and CSS! PC gamers love Halo!!! The only games ahead of Halo were WoW, the Sims, and Runscape! Those games look like absolute ass too. So it begs to question "WHERES THE INNOVATION AND THE SUPPOSED PC POWER?". I just don't see it and niether do millions of other gamers. The PC market has to change. http://www.nielsen.com/media/toptens_yearend_2007.html http://www.nielsen.com/media/toptens_games.html Mark Rein's own guys prefer it on console! http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/02/01/mark_rein_consoles_killing_the_pc_market

Yes, it is! $6500 or $1500 on

Yes, it is! $6500 or $1500 to play a $50 game is a stupid amount of money. When the game could be played just as good for $299! The people that matter seem to think the PC is in trouble. CEOs answer to shareholders not fanboys. The numbers are in and the console is pummeling the PC in the market and the console versions of these games outsell the PC versions by a wide margin with less piracy! I believe the alliance is bunk and won't amount to much so we'll continue to see this trend.

Neither do millions of other gamers apparently on

I realize that. As a matter of fact this is the same magazine that in the Feb '07 issue had a PC vs Console section, and gave the nod to the PC... of course! They pitted a $6500 Falcon Northwest system against the ($249/$299/$499)consoles. Now just 12 months later they're singing a different tune! They're trying to save an alliance thats dedicated to trying to save the PC! Think about that for a moment. Just imagine if they had to send in people to save the people that were sent in to save you!

What you don't need is exactly what you're getting on

"Fanboyism"! That is exactly what you don't need and is exactly what you're getting in many of these responses that attack the console for being the console. You need solutions. You only really need four IMO. 1.Curb piracy. Attack it! Piracy is a huge problem in PC gaming. No developer wants to spend millions developing a game to watch it hacked up by thieves. The very people who claim to be defending PC gaming are stealing from it! If the shoe fits wear it. 2.Take a cue from the console market! They obviously have it right!!! CHANGE THE PC MARKET!Get behind a standard and develope for it! Right now it seems to be a free-for-all. The console market is software driven, the PC market is hadware driven. Software sells systems...not hardware! Nvidia, AMD/ATI, and Intel have the PC gamer by the balls. He is caught in a cycle he can't get out of. It's update or die. This is the one of the reasons PC gamers eventually pick up a console! 3.Make it affordable! This is where the PC gets hammered by the console! The console has the price-to-performance ratio dialed in. Money talks, BS and fanboyism walks. It just doesn't make sense or is not even an option to spend that kinda money for a decent rig for most folks. Then have to constantly update it! 4.Innovation, remember the "where's the beef" commercial? Well "where's the innovation"? Where's all this supposed power of the PC? I don't see it! Besides MMOs, RTSs, FPSs and Sim games...what?!! Where are the Guitar Heros of the PC world?!! You have to make "killer apps" that are exclusive and not playable on the console. As it stands now there is not one game out there that can't be done on a console. As long as that is the case, there is no real reason to pick up PC gaming!
