The Easy Way to Switch to Linux

Once Ubuntu is successfully installed (with correct drivers etc), does it show you all available wireless networks, either through the OS or an application? I'm considering my laptop as an Ubuntu canidate. I currently use it as a wireless atlas while I travel. Thanks in advance. Somercy Hamilton
