How To: Diagnose Your PC with a Clean Boot
Posted 11/06/2008 at 11:53:01pm
Ah ha. I guess that explains why I didn't know about this handy step. I don't think I've ever called tech fro support other than Patriot or Corsair, which didn't have anything to do with software. Also, on a side note, I did know about msconfig, and I have used it in the past to disable start up programs. I guess the thought of disabling all unneseccary software for use as a troubleshooting technique never dawned on me :p
How To: Diagnose Your PC with a Clean Boot

Huh... I didn't and I've been a reader since 2003. Don't know why I didn't think about it though now that you mention it... Well anyway. I say its a good article and there should be more diagnosing articles like this one!
More Juicy AMD 45nm CPU Lineup Details Revealed
Posted 11/06/2008 at 10:12:22am
A monopoly is not necessarily good for Intel. Let's say Intel wanted to enter new markets... say the high end graphics market. If Intel had a monopoly on the CPU front, Intel could face a slew of anti-trust suits. This could go for any new markets that Intel would like to penetrate. So, AMD is good for both the consumer AND Intel. Right now I am using a Phenom 9850 and I love it. I've gotten it overclocked to 3Ghz on stock HSF! Though I do have to admit I only bought it because it was cheaper than Intel's quad and I wanted a quad... And I am also not one of those Intel haters- I know Intel has the performance crown, I just chose the cheaper option!
Nine New Tweaks for Songbird--the Best iTunes Alternative!
Posted 10/30/2008 at 11:37:49pm
This program sounds worthy of me trying... However, I am a strong iTunes faithful, heck, I've been using since iTunes 3.0 and only tried two other programs- Windows Media Player and Real Plater. Borth scared the crap outta me and I quickly returned to iTunes! But this one looks like it deserves a shot, the first time I stray from iTunes in probably over five years. We'll see!
$800 Budget PC Buyer’s Guide -- Updated Prices and Parts For October 2008
Posted 10/30/2008 at 03:16:31pm
First off, I have to agree to READ the article. A 300$ PC isn't going to "play the current games." That's the overall goal of MAXimumpc. Using a 300$ PC you get the ubiquitous Intel graphics, coupled with a dual core Sempron running under 2ghz that was bought from emachines from Wal-Mart. Also, keep in mind the majority of PC users ALSO don't have s subscription to MaximumPC. Those who do, a 300$ machine usually won't do. I do agree with you, however, that their first "budget" machine at $1500 isn't budget. But $800? Come on, thats budget for a hardcore PC user. $300 is xtreme-budget for a mainstream user.
On another note, I'm glad MaxPC finally decided to lower their budget standards. 800$, in my opionion, is perfect for a budget Pc. and all the componenets you chose are perfect! Good articles and keep up the good work!
AMD to Split Into Separate Design and Manufacturing Companies
Posted 10/07/2008 at 03:45:58pm
I'm glad this is happening. I really really hope that AMD can pull this together and finally get a chance to catch up to Intel. It would be best for the industry and for us the consumers if AMD survives. I bought a Phenom x4 not that long ago, and I am really happy with it. Now, I know it doesn't compare to the Core archetecture, but hey- I figure my money is going to help fuel competition?
Budget Badass Buyer’s Guide -- Updated Prices and Parts For October 2008

I guess I'm not the only one who thinks "budget" means under 1K. I think Budget Badass is
good at 1.5K, but MaxPC should consider a Budget PC under 1K for us who are cheapies, but
still want a decent rig, like me!
