The Myth of an HDMI / DisplayPort Standoff

This is all BS.If manufacturers think we'll all buy new Video Cards and monitors to watch movies, think again. There's a finite amount of cash available, and no good reason to switch over to > Yet Another < standard. They're shooting themselves in the foot with this phony standards war. People who bought new computers (or assembled them) for DirectX 10 got burned when M$ brought out DirectX 10.1 .Vista's cost, upgraded hardware,Big-Screen LCD's.... Then there is the Blu-Ray debacle. Now DP versus HDMI? Looks to me that movie rentals will be down for a good while. A lot of Early adopters' will not upgrade to this junk.

I'm an owner of both AMD and Intel CPU's....of various architectures and speeds. Intel is undisputibly the "Big Dog" of the microprocessor world. I'm hoping AMD will pull way in front of Intel again. They need to in order to remain a viable company. No matter who you favor, for whatever reason;this leapfrogging has at least two major benefits to enthusiasts.(And to the general public,by the filter - down effect). 1 - Price competition on premium CPU's keeps the costs reasonable.Without competition, pricing will rise. 2 - R&D people busy turning out ever newer higher - performing designs,as quickly as possible; gives all consumers better products.

You won't be able to use your "Crippled" XP from your old machine, 'cause the Big OEM's strip out everything (device drivers),that you > Don't Need < on their computer. If you want to add drives or other hardware, the OS can't help you install it. They have a deal with M$ that they'll supply you with a functional copy of an M$ product that will work only with your machine. This way, good 'old Billy gets his $ when you buy a machine, and more $ when you buy a full, non-crippled copy to use only on one machine. Got two machines? Put the same copy on more than one, it eventually "Call's home" and rat's you out. So the first copy you use on the 'net will be OK, but a later connection by 'puter number 2 will be politely dismissed....no updates for that machine.I assume 'puter 2 will be using the internet. So: Give up the cash,or go Linux. M$ has been ruled a monopoly, and now you must pay. Sorry,Bob

This dual, even quad Graphics-processing is wasteful, redundant;and counter to Desktop system design philosophy. Sure, the Graphics card makers want the gamers' to buy multiple cards....profits! Through die-shrinking and advanced manufacturing technology, the Vid Card makers' can and should produce tomorrows' performance without clogging a Mobo with multiple VidCards. Using one card will save energy...I'm not gonna lay out $2000 for 4 GP cards, nor am I gonna put up $1,000 for two. Ridiculous in the extreme. As long as gamers' buy into this backward-thinking mode, VidCard makers will keep expanding them. Can you imagine a 2,000 watt Power supply that runs only on 240 Volts AC? Get real.

Too bad for M$. They had their chance, they made their $, and now it's slipping away. The only thing Windows has over F.O.S.S. is gaming. That also will change. ............................................... Bleating about your Monopoly's share slipping, just doesn't generate much sympathy. I'd imagine these "F.U.D." pronouncements have more to do with calming shareholder's concerns, than actual F.O.S.S. advocates' considerations. The Genie is out of the bottle, and the bottle is now broken. Is it time to pass the hat? "(Psssst...It's the Philosophy (between collaboration and pure consumption)that's fundamentally different". Microsoft's business model is obsolete. Good luck to the "Computer Police" trying to enforce "Windows only" on the community! LOL .............................................. Microsoft DOES, however make some incredible hardware...they should consider concentrating their resources on that, and other aspects of the business. .............................................. Maximum PC is the only magazine IMO that tells this story in a transparent, truthful manner. All of the other Mags don't want to upset their marketing and >especially< advertising executives. Kudos to Max PC!!!
