The New Wave of LCDs

This is a really informative article, but one thing I'm a bit torn on is the section on contrast ratio.
"Don’t pay attention to contrast ratios: They’re all hype, as each display manufacturer will engineer its own testing situation, so there’s no basis for meaningful comparison."
I see where you're coming from saying that manufacturer's can impact the numbers depending on how they measure contrast ratio, but aside from that I think most experts would agree that the contrast ratio is the most important aspect of a display. It far outweighs resolution and even correct colour when it comes to picture quality. This is because the details for dark scenes or shadowed areas cannot be seen at all if your monitor has a poor contrast ratio. I can think of a couple shows and movies where you probably wouldn't have the slightest clue what was going on if your contrast wasn't at least 1000:1.

Shadows Lengthening Over Broadcast TV: Analyst (Spoiler: Piracy is to Blame)

The only time you'll catch me sitting in front of the boobtube is if Dexter is on, or I dont have access to a computer. That being the case, almost everyone I know still watches TV regularily so I think Anthony is just spewing crazy talk. Like I've said before, there will always be people who want hard copies of things they purchase so I don't think distribution of non-digital mediums will even disapear over the next few hundred years let alone the next few years.

Yeah u'd be amazed at how many people dont have access to internet while everyone else takes it for granted. I wasnt able to get highspeed at my house until a year ago using a radio modem that connects to a cellphone tower 10km away, and right now it's not working very well. Its better in the winter time when there are less leaves in the way. Do u have any idea how lame it is to be waiting for winter time to come so you can start fragging people?

I feel like I've been posting too much today, but I just have to say that Chrono Trigger was the best damn game ever made for the SNES and I'm definitely picking this one up for my DS.
