New Apple Ads Take Direct Shot at Microsoft's $300 Milliion "I'm a PC" Campaign
Posted 10/20/2008 at 04:09:53pm
Okay, the first computer I ever touched was an Apple IIe. And that was the last Apple product I ever used, thankfully. Sure the Macbooks look slick, but what do you do when the motor of your slot-fed, integrated-into-the-chassis DVD drive burns out? It happened to a client of mine, who said, "there's something wrong with the DVD drive." Well DUUHHH!!! There's something wrong with the whole thing: It's a MAC!!! Unfortunately she had to send it back to Apple, haha.
At least Micro$oft had the decency to sit down with MaximumPC and relate their Vista issues. Why don't I ever hear of Apple doing something similar, say with their bad iPod hard drives and proprietary Mac hardware?

Patch Tuesday Update Breaks ZoneAlarm on Windows XP - Updated!
Posted 07/09/2008 at 06:20:43pm
I spent a good half-day arguing with my ISP over this problem. It doesn't actually kill "all net functions," as I was able to ping my Gateway, DNS servers, and any other IP address out there. I knew it must have been an update problem because I was working fine this morning.....then came 4 security updates.....afterward, no internet. But I didn't know it was a ZoneAlarm problem until I fired up my laptop, which doesn't have ZoneAlarm on it......it worked just fine. Until there's a definite fix for this issue (which will never come from Redmond....we'll have to get it from Zone Labs), I've simply uninstalled ZoneAlarm and re-enabled the craptacular Windows Firewall.

So how far back will you go in the archives? I've got all the mags since Feb 2001, and seriously need to make room on my bookshelves! I've been keeping an Excel file referencing articles of interest, but still I've had to go back to the mags to re-read them, until now! Thanks mucho for making this so much easier! Finally I'll have space on my shelves for other things, like my collections of pocket-lint and porno-DVD's!!!! (Whoops...did I type that out loud?) Seriously....Thanks for all your hard work on your supreme magazine and website.
