Has Bit Torrent Declared War On VoIP and Gamers?
Posted 12/06/2008 at 03:56:35pm
I can see the point to the argument on both sides of this. I use to work for an ISP called Xplornet that owns a network basically made up of radio towers which has run into issues with P2P traffic. The thing is that network was made for heavy traffic, their plan initial was to bring to bring high speed to rural areas which I think is a great idea since most major ISP's seem to thumb their nose at rural customers (as for those in cities whining they may get slowed down a little browsing/downloading, listen closely.... hear that? its the world's smallest violin...)
On the other hand I'm a fan of torrents, yes I do download games but its only becauseI want to try a real version before I buy it. Every game I've downloaded I now own a legal copy.
Can't remember where I read this, I think it was in an email a customer had emailed into the company it was about P4P and it was a different strategy for managing P2P traffic with out it being a burden on the network.
Anyone else heard of it?

EA Responds to Spore DRM Critics

I'll admit I've downloaded more then my share of games and cracks while I was at college, but something no one seems to relieze is that there are alot of people that are still on dial up. Doing an Activation like the way Steam does takes all night, sometimes days. Yeah there are a few companies out there that are trying to corner the market and bing "highspeed" to the areas in between and the lands forgotten, but in most cases the only option people have is satellite internet which is expensive as hell for a fast connection and has strict download and upload limits on it. I know they need to protect their ideas and make money on it but they can't forget about the people who only have dial-up or country dial-up.

I think the Mac commercials are a little bit funny, especially the old one with the "PCs" sitting on the work bench. The one i thought was clever though was when PC had his PR person there taling about Vista and people downgrading to XP
RIAA Wins P2P Case Because Defendant Used a File Shredder

It might just be me but if you are suspected of a crime, the evidence is taken away from you. They don't let suspected murders keep their weapons or close. If the RIAA had given it a thought they would have taken the hard drive from the beginning.

Thats really great for anyone in the city or a large town, but what about people outide of town that need to clunky speed satellite or a Line of Site service? I think the push should be towards making it more available, not faster. not yet any ways. Learn to have patience people
