A World Without Windows XP
Posted 07/06/2008 at 09:18:01pm
I got a copy of XP from school years ago that requires no activation and works on any machine I put it on. I'll stick with that and wait for Windows 7. Hopefully, by then Microsoft will have learned how to move files without spinning blue circles and needless trips to Not_Responding_Land. Maybe they can also take a cue from Apple and actually make their OS faster. What I would like to see is an OS that can get out of my way and let me use my computer, and Vista ain't it.
(yes, I have more than enough horsepower to run Vista and yes, I have tried SP1)
Microsoft's Strangest Hits (and Misses)

That slow down your pc with Microsoft thing just keeps getting worse. Vista is a performance pig. When is Microsoft going to learn that what people really want is a less bloated, faster OS? Ah, we can dream.
Pretty Good Privacy is Pretty Legally Protected

While I understand and even agree with the sentiment of your comment, here's a different way to think about it. Criminals often end up unintentionally protecting the rights of the innocent. This alleged criminal merely brought to the courts attention an issue that could effect innocent people. Because of this, you now know that you can legally protect your privacy using an encryption tool and some government entity will not be able to force you to reveal it. Unfortunately, these issues are rarely brought to the legal systems attention without at least the allegation of wrongdoing.
Make Vista Liveable

C'mon, surely you can do better than TweakVI. This piece of junk software won't even start. First, it demands the presence of a circa 2000 file (mscomctl.ocx) and then, even after the file is installed and registered, it still doesn't work. If this software is the best you guys can recommend, then don't bother.
Daily News Brief: Blockbuster Bumps Up Online Pricing (Again)
Posted 12/21/2007 at 01:14:26pm
I got a notice from them, and canceled my account immediately. Blockbuster violated my personal TOS by raising prices twice in just a few months. That exceeded the profit threshold that I find acceptable based on my personal irritation/shoddy service/scratched disks/delayed shipment algorithm.
