Enjoy a 3-4 Second Boot with Asrock's New Instant Boot Feature
Posted 11/15/2008 at 10:54:37am
Wow... I'm glad Asrock has finally caught up to the past!!
Been using the S3 state on our computers for the past three years. Simple... set your BIOS for S3, set your power options.
End of story.
Best to install your OS after setting the BIOS.. but works either way.

NBC Dumps Silverlight After the Olympics, Runs Back to Flash

"Having a large install base is important because it makes it easier for Microsoft to convince developers to use its platform."
Uh..... No.
This has been, and will continue to be.. Microsoft's ONLY way to get people to use their platforms. It isn't people's choices to download their software.. so much as it is the only option there is. Like IE.. since it's integration into the OS and MS's WU forcing users to install IE 7 as a "critical update" isn't a choice for those that use Auto-updates. It's a fact. If you wanted to view NBC content (aka MSNBC) you had to have MS software.
Now that it's over however.. I've uninstalled Silverlight because it's pretty much useless.
No Microsoft.. 1.5 million a day wasn't people going "oh yeah, check this out.. we have got to get this!!" it was "oh great.. here we go again".
Adeona: Open-Source Approach to Tracking Stolen Laptops
Posted 08/25/2008 at 01:32:30pm
Nothing beats the open source community when they decide to do something for the rest of us... and it's free.
However, knowing what LoJack is capable of.. without BIOS integration, Adeona is defeated with a single system recovery. All of which can be done on a notebook in 20 mins... the time it takes a thief to steal the notebook.. and drive home.

Firefox Forges On, Version 3.1 Coming Soon
Posted 06/30/2008 at 01:37:35pm
Seeing minor updates roll out monthly.. or even weekly, is a good thing. Or.. would we all want a browser with known or suspect security holes to go for months on end with no updates?
With XP.., yeah I still need to use IE for Windows updates.. but for those using Vista.. there's no longer any real compelling "need" for the browser any more. Aside from those that wish to argue that "websites are designed for IE". So... use the IETab addon in FF.
