TDK Looks to Deliver 2.5TB Drives By Early 2010

Posted 08/08/2009 at 09:16:53pm

I wish TDK well, but I hope their quality exceeds what I have found with their CD media.  My company lost a $500 computer program on a TDK CD.  I was able to recover a copy from another source, but the original program was put on a TDK blank CD by the manufacturer-and it did not last 3 years.  I have become very wary of storage on CD and DVD.  It is really too bad that it does not always work.

Maybe their hard drives will be state of the art.  We can hope for another good competitor in the market.

Microsoft May Ship a Free Version of Office 14 & Will Still Work on Windows XP

I still own a copy of Office 2000 Professional.  It functions perfectly well for my needs, but when I tried OpenOffice, I liked it better.  OpenOffice is much less bloated and seems to use less resources.  I see no need for adware based Microsoft Office software when I can use a faster, slimmer program alternative for free right now.  I now have my entire company using OpenOffice-why pay for anything else?

Open Office 3.0 Nearing Launch – Beta Available For Download

My copy of MS Office 2000 Professional is now mothballed in it's jewel case, and OpenOffice 2.4 is on every computer I use at home and at work.  MS Office is too bulky and too expensive for my tastes.

Rumor: Asus Accounts for 80% of All P45-Based Motheboard Sales

I also put together an A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard around 6 years ago.  It is approaching 50000 hours of use now without a problem.

I have just completed building 2 computers for work using Asus P5Q motherboards.  While one came DOA and had to be exchanged, no other MB problems were encountered.  They boot using the default BIOS settings and run cool and stable.  One thing I like about the current hardware is that everything assembles so much quicker and easier than years ago...Progress is good! (Now if I could just get Intel to redesign the heatsink retention mechanism!!!)

I had the same problem-instant loss of internet connectivity.  I used System Restore to quickly undo whatever was done and got back to where I was a day earlier.  After an episode like this, I am glad not to have automatic updates turned on-who knows how many people wondered what happened to their internet connection???

Welcome to the New MaximumPC.com!

I like the new site.  The increased content is welcomed.  I hope it will stimulate interest in your magazine and increase your number of subscribers.   I view a 24" monitor at 1440 X 900 (sorry-bad eyes) and have a considerable amount of wasted space on both sides of your content.  You might want to set it up for a more "Maximum PC" audience of higher resolution--hopefully no one is viewing with a 15" CRT monitor at 640 X 480 or 800 x 600!

Vista Activation Strikes Again - Time to Fight Back

All right everyone: some people out there should have websites, email addresses, street addresses, and phone numbers to complain to Microsoft. I would appreciate anyone who has such to post them here and in the MPC Forum as well. Complaints sometime work with Microsoft-something needs to be done now.
