Windows 7 Review: XP vs Vista vs 7 in 80+ Benchmarks

Posted 08/16/2009 at 12:21:14am

I'm so glad I no longer buy the magazine.

There's absolutely no mention, whatsoever, of other complains you've had about Windows before. Remember when you complained about how OSX got a better way of installing software? Or how much you wanted many different desktops, like Linux? Is there a mention of the vulnerabilities that have been found in Win 7 that are years old? You don't compare Win 7 to Linux or OSX, when I bet you would definitely do that if reviewing Linux or OSX! You just follow the MS PR advice of just comparing the new OS to previous versions of Windows, only!

Moreover, Windows will never, ever be safe! If OSes are really all equal, where are the infestations that are supposed to ruin all other OSes? Can you mention any that have been on the wild, in the last 5 years? Anyone? Cmon, just mention one! Have you heard of ANY botnet that controls Non-Windows machines?

Did you forget to factor in the features you get against the dollars paid?

Where's the Windows explorer with tabs? Where are the Windows LiveCDs? Where are the Windows runnable from a USB key? Where the comparison between quality and number, of the web browser and other apps you get with Windows by default, and the ones offered by other OSes?

For a magazine that once, many years ago introduced me to Linux, BeOS and MacOS, this review is a disgrace.

You have so much MS semen on your mouth.

Actually, what I consider to be the killer app in Rockbox is its ability to display text files.

Yes, just load any ebooks you can get in text format, and it's surprisingly good for reading books when on the bus, subway, airport, or waiting for the doctor.

Rockbox (at least on the sansa I use) lets you scroll manually line by line, or page by page, but it also lets you scroll the page automatically line by line, and you can customize how fast or slow to make that scroll. Fab!

HP Announces Tweaks to Its Mini Netbook Line

You have conveniently omitted that one of the models spots Ubuntu Linux. Do you still deny MS pays you to mention Linux as least as possible?  Or will you give the excuse that you just read engadget's note and didn't go to HP itself to get the full info? Either way, your integrity is compromised.

Protect Your Linux Box from Viruses

Posted 07/26/2007 at 03:02:25pm

Reality is deceitful. There's a ridiculous rumor running around the net that Linux is as inherently insecure as Windows and that you should even bother running an antivirus on it. Show me a link to a respectable source, where you can find info on a virus already on the wild affecting Linux users. C'mon, I dare you. If there were at least one, it already would have hit hard those millions of Linux users who already surf the web, confidently, without antivirus programs. Heck, some don't even bother running a firewall. Antivirus applications exist on Linux *just so you can scan windows documents and/or partitions*. So yes, it's a polite gesture to our friends using Windows, to scan something we might send their way. Don't judge other OSes as you do Windows. Like John Ziegler says, it's like comparing apples to elephants. From a regular MPC reader, WS
