Technoloy is Turning Us into Time Wasters

Posted 07/26/2008 at 11:38:25am

I agree that technology has pushed people to procrastinate more. Put off the things we need to do today when we might get to them tomorrow. I think we think we have to have the latest and greatest and fastest stuff to maybe get more done when we're spending more time with this new stuff.

I also think we're paying more for this new technology which causes us to spend more with money we really don't have. Right now I'm so deep in debt I'm in a panic just waiting for my next paycheck to see how much money I won't have to live on.

Do we really need to txt message? And while driving?

Do we really need on demand movies on our cell phones?

Do we really need our own personel web site?

Do we really need to pay to listen to the radio? Now this one really never made any sense to me.

Are we collectively losing are minds?

Dell 2407WFP-HC

Posted 07/26/2008 at 10:02:05am

I got a 2407WFP-HC back in the fall of last year. As soon as turned it on I knew I was going to send it back for a refund. Video and any movement on the screen was a blurry mess. Mind you the picture and colors were great. I loved the design and the many useful features (i.e. video inputs, card reader and USB ports) but I was very very dissapointed with its performance. Has anyone at Maximum PC read the support/hardware/monitor thread on 2407WFP-HC ghosting on the Dell web site? There's a lot of complaints of ghosting on this monitor and I was one of them. Also it took several months to get my refund. They have another 24" model but it has a TN panel and no extra features.

LG W2452T

Posted 07/26/2008 at 08:51:17am

I recently had to replace my 21" Gateway and it was a pretty decent monitor with a lot of useful features. I bought a LG 22" and was very disappointed in its performance. Any movement on the screen was a blurry mess. Video was unwatchable and the cusor had very long trail behind it. Oh, it also had a stuck pixel to top it off. I returned it got a Samsung 22". I too was wondering why anyone would want and/or use the funny features on the LG. Speaking of features, why just tilt to adjust the monitor and just a single DVI and VGA port on the Samsung too. The Samsung performs pretty good dis spite it uses a TN panel. You can see brightness and slight color changes when viewing at an angle. I also have older LG 17' and 19" 4:3 ratio monitors and their performance is very good. I think most manufactures are trying to get by on the cheap side and we the consumers are suffering and paying more for it.

A Tale of Two E-Commerce Sites

Posted 01/05/2008 at 09:08:01pm

I have placed three orders with Newegg within a year. In each instance in less than 24 hours I've received three e-mails keeping me informed on the status of the orders and they have been shipped out within that time too. I also received the orders in the three days promised. I've placed orders with other sites and get one e-mail confirming the order, sometimes a thank you and that's it. Other E-Commerce sites should learn a thing or two from Newegg.
