Vista? Has fixes? Get out of town!

I was half heartedly joking with the linux games comment; in fact, only yesterday did I natively install UT2004 on my ubuntu machine. I was impressed at how well it ran; ubuntu must manage system resources better than windows, as the game was much smoother. Concerning the updates, I just installed them. The system is definitely more responsive than before.

And exactly which "games" are you playing on your linux distro? ;)

New Fan? Which Way Should It Blow?

Its a regular full size ATX board (BFG Nforce 4 Ultra). I am running an Athlon X2 4200+ @ 2.6GHz. I can get it up to 2.8GHz stable, but the voltage requirements are absurd. At 2.6GHz it idles around 38C. Not bad for a 939 system on air! I mainly like the reverse ATX design because I can see the top side of my GPU.

Reverse ATX seems to make more sense to me, as it places some of the hottest components down near the bottom of the case. I would like to see what thermal difference, if any, such a chassis design has to offer. My setup: http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/2962/wkmeupgrade017ys9.jpg

I have about three PC's sprawled out on my workbench at any given moment. Real enthusiasts don't use cases! ;)

I do wonder if the P190 will receive a similar treatment?

The Problem with Crappy Cases

My fingers are quite butchered from working with poor chassis and IO plate designs. It truly sucks when I hemorrhage blood all over my customer's $2500 machine. The whole "I poured my sweat and blood into this build" thing just doesn't quite cut it. ;)

I largely agree with the content here. It is very easy (not to mention disturbing) to imagine a "gen Z" future, as you put it, with defunct literary standards in our columns, editorials, magazines, and publications of all kinds. I see no hypocrisy. While MaximumPC has always been liberal with their choice of language, most of it is somewhat tasteful, and when it is not, its genuinely funny.

just to elaborate more on the stability testing question for those interested: CPU: Prime95 as stated, but I like SuperPi as well. There is also an app called Orthos which tests both CPU/GPU, and it has a nice GUI. RAM: Memtest86 (you need to boot off of a cd or floppy)

Some of the best production values of any podcast I listen to; keep up the excellent work. Note: This is about industry news and analysis. While the humor associated with Gordan's rant is all good, it really is superfluous. So no big loss. Stop your crying. :)
