Hasselblad Readies Awesome 60 Megapixel Camera for 2009
Posted 09/26/2008 at 07:21:24am
I'm not a photographer. Can somebody explain what they mean when they say "Full Frame?" Are they talking about the number of pixels being the same as the number of grains(?) in traditional photos??
$208 Million Petascale Computer System Gets Green Light
Posted 09/17/2008 at 06:09:36am
Did the sun stop existing as the origin of 99% of Earth's energy? Can coronal mass ejections take out entire power grids and fry your precious PC?
Nope.
Yup.
QED.
Stardock Announces "The Gamer's Bill of Rights"
Posted 09/03/2008 at 11:59:28am
These are really nice ideas. Now Stardock needs to really vett all of its software to align with them. When I recently installed Impulse (their craptastic online content delivery system) it also installed some kind of launcher application that I had absoultely zero interest in using, without even asking for permission to do so. Furthermore, it is not readilly apparent how to remove this launching dock (which interferes with the windows task bar in the standard location). Eventually I figured out how to make it go away, but as far as I can tell there is no way to uninstall it from my system.
And what's more, Impulse is the slowest piece of crap on the planet.
So, to summarize, lofty ideas, piss poor implementation.
Newegg Reverses Decision to Collect New York Sales Tax
Posted 08/27/2008 at 11:21:52am
I want to know what will happen when the the NYS Attorney General's office knocks on the door at Newegg and asks to see their info regarding sales in NYS. Will Newegg give it up, thereby throwing its NY customers under the bus, or will it tell Cuomo and his croney's to take a hike??
Scientists Use Viruses to Make Batteries
Posted 08/25/2008 at 02:55:45pm
If these nano-batteries are so cheap then why isn't there an application for them! Do you know how much smaller and lighter my laptop could be if it didn't have to rely on this giant clunky Li Ion battery? There should literally be thousands of applications for these things. Cell phones, MP3 players. Portable anything.
Why not build/link enough of them so that they are macroscopic in scale and power a car? To say there is no application for these things is absolutley ridiculous.
Chrysler Plans to Turn the Car Into a Hot Spot

It sounds like it would be great for picnics, tailgating and camping (drive-up state campground style, obviously not backpacking so much).
So here are some questions:
Does the WiFi extend to a small area around the minivan? How is it actually connected to the internet? Satellite? Does that mean the upload speeds are crappy?
Rumor: The Next Kindle Targeted to College Slackers
Posted 08/25/2008 at 02:37:34pm
$360 might be bearable for college students if Amazon bundles in a textbook or two. I bought a Calculus book last semester that cost $190!! I think a textbook viewer would need a larger format tho.
Gaming Roundup 8/22/08: Freedom
Posted 08/23/2008 at 04:22:12am
Moore is right about not suing his consumers.
Maybe a solution could come from the music industry as well. Developers could offer games in "episodes" on a name-your-own-price basis like Radiohead did for its last album. At least its a neat marketing gimmick. Piraters wouldn't pirate cuz you could get the legit version for free or damn close to free. The developers could also make some extra dough on the ads that run in their digital distribution software. (Not that anyone really wants to see MORE ads.)

6th Grader: 1 pt
Gator:0 pt
At least the (not) n00b didn't make sweeping statements of questionable validity.
Gator, unless you're 12 you shouldn't argue with a sixth grader. It's not becoming of adults to argue with the youngins. Especially when they make their point better.

@bholstege: Not too shabby. Nice, concise writing.
