This CPU is single core!!!!  Not dual core...  What you're counting is the system CPU and the graphics processing unit.  Sorry, this system as a whole has only ONE main CPU, the system CPU.  It is single core.

It does have hyperthreading, though.

Hrmm...

If you want dual core functionality, just get a regular laptop.

There are plenty of dual core yet small laptops out there that are cheap yet can get the job done.  No need to load up a netbook with technology that goes against the ideal of "small, cheap, light, efficient".  For what netbooks are designed to do (webbrowse, check e-mail), they don't really need dual cores.

Just like MS makes IE, right?  How long as IE existed?  How long has it been buggy?  Almost as long as MS has been in business.

Again, browser exploits aren't good examples of OS security, as the browser is separate from kernel- and service-level vulnerabilities...browsers are applications outside of the OS internals.  I must've said this at lest 6-7 times in these comments. Yes, this includes MS IE.  You guys aren't good at rationalization.

How much you wanna bet that if you asked Obama about an optical drive he wouldn't know what it was.  Maybe you should've said CDROM drive or CD drive?  I know my parents (who are over 60 yrs old) don't know what optical drives are.  My sisters (who are in their 30s) don't either.

That question is hardly one to judge a person's computer knowledge, especially if they feel that they shouldn't have to pass a computer quiz to own a computer.

Mac and MS is mainly about ease-of-use, which is why Linux usually has issues breaking into the MS market. OS X is a melding of both the "I just want it to work" and "I want to tune this baby" mentalities.  You can have both and get the end-results that you need.

Also, if you haven't noticed, most netbooks don't have optical drives...this is not a problem.  You can always use an external USB optical drive if you need an optical drive. This isn't the show-stopper that you're making it out to be.  You could've shared that knowledge with the misinformed person regardless of what OS is your favorite.

Got a real-world example and not some hacking contest results?  Hacking competition results are hardly good examples.

I can name plenty for MS OSs.

I already commented on that link.  Since the consensus is that Macs are easy to crack, I'd like to see more than that one example, please...  The more real-world examples (and not some cracking test), the better it'll support your argument.

And while you're at it, commence to counting the proven vulnerabilites of MS vs. OS X.  I can't remember the last time I saw a true malware instance for Linux (yeah, Linux).  Linux is a Unix clone, as is OS X.  Those two OSs have security inherently built into it, much moreso than anything MS has to offer.  This isn't fanboy-ism...it is reality.  Now, if MS adopts the type of user permissions and file ownerships as Unix, it'll have far less issues with malware, even with its buggy-as-Hell services such as DCOM and SMB.

The cheapest Macbook is alsoMUCH more expensive.

I've both...I spent around $1400 for my Macbook and $399 for my Dell Mini 9.  Everything I can do with my Macbook, I can do with my Mini...seriously.  There are some things that the Macbook will do better due to it having dual core technology, a larger screen, and more disk space capacity.

Let's not be ridiculous when comparing.

I don't know of many phones that contain USB connectivity (where they accept all known USB peripherals, a real keyboard, a screen over 9", and a 1.6ghz CPU, along with large drive space.

NewsFrom one of the on

From one of the articles:

Miller had discovered the exploit last year, which allows a remote attacker to take over a machine if a user clicks on a malicious URL.

For the record, that is NOT a hack.  Social engineering people to click on malicious links is NOT a hack.  A true hack will work without having someone click malicious URLs to expose holes...most malicious URLs are actually directing you somewhere that isn't immediately obvious.

Same article:

On the same day, a 25-year-old computer science student at the University of Oldenburg in Germany demonstrated exploits in IE8, Safari, and Firefox, earning him a cool $15,000 ($5,000 per exploit), along with getting to keep the Sony Vaio P series notebook he used (Miller pocketed $5,000 and a MacBook Air).

So, in that contest, and on that same day, someone else attacked the other browsers/systems successfully.  He probably used the same method as Miller did.  Kinda hard to get a browser to go to a malware link on its own.

If these were non-browser vectors, I'd be better impressed...I talked with my colleages about this when this article was published...they're of like mind.
