Enjoy a 3-4 Second Boot with Asrock's New Instant Boot Feature

Posted 11/14/2008 at 04:30:24pm

The article summed it up. The system is basically just put in standby mode ... so this is something you can already do. It's not truly shutting the system completely down and back on in 3-4 seconds.

Dont get what all the hype is anyways.

Either I:

A: Just leave my rig on.

B: Put it in sleep or hibernation

C: If completely shut down, I just turn it on and walk away.

Hrm, while what I believe they have been doing is wrong ... it doesn't take
a lot of sense to realize it was a scam.

If you start a membership you can view other people’s info right? So then,
if classmates were trying to reach him and they had a membership ... why would
he need to create his own membership?

If someone wants to get a hold of me badly enough, they will. I am not going
to try and help anyone find me by creating a membership. That just doesn't make
any sense.

So someone is looking at your profile but they haven't contacted you. They
obviously don’t feel the need to talk to you for some reason, why bother trying
to get a hold of them? :/

Is Windows 7 M3 Build 6801 Really "Vista R2?"

Posted 11/12/2008 at 04:29:20pm

Eh, I don't see how they could get away with just releasing another Vista. I mean Vista has already been a huge failure and I am sure has cost Microsoft a lot of revenue, how can they afford to do it again?

As long as XP stays up no one has any reason to move.

Report: DRAM Makers Must 'Reduce or Retire'

Posted 11/12/2008 at 03:37:09pm

I guess I just dont understand. It doesnt seem like the low price of ram is the problem, its the fact that too many different companies are mass producing it so no one company is getting a lot of business.

It would seem to me that if the ram continued at the same prices but with less manufacturers then they wouldnt be complaining ... or would they?

They are making enough per stick they are just getting gready and want to hike prices. Unless execs are making millions they aren't happen .. and even when they are they still want more.

All the companies are doing it right now. How much can I milk from one product. :/

Developers Wage War Against Used Game Sales

Posted 11/11/2008 at 01:44:27pm

You know, they are spending millions upon millions brainstorming to find new
ways to protect their games and increase their profit. If they were to take
half of that energy and redirect it into completing a good product then maybe
people would buy more just because it was such a good game.

What's next, targeting companies that rent out your games? That would be a
sure way to shoot themselves in the foot. Many times I have purchased games
after renting them.

Eh well, not that they would ever be reading this but to all the big top
execs that support something like this ...

Take your multi million dollar salary and kiss my arse! Btw, you better save
what you have because you are going to drive your company into the ground with
more bootleg copies on the market.

Edit: The more restrictions you place on someone the greater their desire to break free from them.

Look at Spore with their DRM. Had to have been the most bootleg'd game ever in such a short span of time. Too many execs sitting around wondering why they are developing new games when they can still make money off their old crap...

Rumor: Blu-Ray Player Pricing May Drop to $150 in Time for Holiday Season

Posted 11/10/2008 at 04:18:57pm

I have seen the Oppo up converting but also prefer Blu-Ray. For some older
movies there isn't a lot you can do so they won't look much better over Blu-Ray
but for those who are picky enough (like me), you can see a small difference.

Also, not that it is the ruling feature of any HD component but you should
notice an improvement with 1080p vs 1080i. Matter of fact, some people find
720p better than 1080i.

Your Sony, nice as it may be, isn't as good as it can be. I actually bought
another tv today (LN52A750) for only $2000 (no tax/free shipping) from
Amazon...almost a grand less than Best Buy. IMO it's becoming very affordable
right now!

Ask the Doctor: Windex Worries

Alcohol based? Hrm, I have always heard that you should stay away from anything alcohol based when it comes to an LCD or Plasma, especially with glossy screens. The alcohol can slowly (sometimes quickly depending on the quality of the display) eat away at the screen.

*Edit* Yeah, there are other articles out there saying to use alcohol but why bother to risk it long term if you can do the same thing with just water?

Personally, I would rather not find out either way. I just stick with a microfiber cloth and purified water. Even in certain lighting you can see that there is no evidence of even microscratches when you stick to those two things.

TrueHD 1080p + a good quality Blu-Ray Player + a newer/high budget film ... you will notice a huge difference.

We had a Panasonic 720p with an upconverting DVD player. When we got our first Samsung 1080p LCD and a PS3 it was awe inspiring. The difference was instantly realized.

Exactly, the article explains what this card is intended for. I would guess it might run games but not well at all. Not nearly what you would get from something like a 280 or 4870 X2.

Honestly, I haven't shopped there in years but hate that they are closing. Less competition for places like Best Buy means higher prices for consumers. I have, on a number of occations, gotten large price match refund from Best Buy due to sales at Circuit City.
