A cordless rotary tool that is easy to handle, powerful, and holds a charge? Come on now - stop pulling my leg.

With a backing cut out, it's time to see what an upholstered rig can look like. As an added bonus, I managed to avoid stapling my hand to the workbench.

That Hod Rod of yours may have great paint or vinyl on it - but how’s the upholstery? Upholster your rig! It can be done.

Inspiration can't be taught or bought - but you can go looking for it. That's just what the Manta did. On a beach no less.

So you’re just about to bolt on an additional fan to cool your UberMach 3000 rig. Is it an innie or an outie?

Daily News Brief: Ban Online Anonymity!?
Posted 03/14/2008 at 01:40:52pm
I don't know how you would fine (I thought he meant "find")someone (anonymous or no). You can't prove who was sitting at the box. And it would be expensive to pursue. I was just commenting on anonymity online. You can't keep it just by using a proxy and doing whatever you please. It requires multiple layers and even then it requires a certain type of behavior online to keep it. The proposed law is silly and unenforcible IMO. But I think there are many silly and unenforcible laws. It sits in good company.
Daily News Brief: Ban Online Anonymity!?

Right and true Hackman. Internet anonymity, for the most part, is an illusion. True, if you are really smart about it a layered approach with proxy can obfuscated activity. But ya know, if you walk home the same way everyday - well.....leave it there I guess ;) Point is - there are a bunch of folks that *think* they are anonymous - but really are not. Why would anyone think a free proxy system offers them real protection? I mean....well....it cost money to run the service. Wonder how they make that money. Just my thoughts on a Thursday evening.....
Daily News Brief: Microchips to Require Activation
Posted 03/09/2008 at 12:39:19am
So, Let me get this right. EPIC will cost more to make and put in a chip. It will require the user to activate the legitimate chip in order for it to operate. Software can't be designed to trick the chip because the number (ID) is only known after the chip is "started". A Pirated chip will now cost even less (in relative dollars) because they will skip EPIC (it's a pirated chip remember?) and will require no activation. How exactly does that discourage piracy? Am I slow or something? (Don't answer that). This is the problem with current DRM concepts. It runs legit users through hoops. Cripes, it's going to get to the point that pirated stuff is more user friendly simply because it just works rather than asking a dozen questions and requesting a phone call! The biggest problem I see with much of the DRM stuff around is that it focuses on trying to get you (the user) to prove that your material (hardware or otherwise) is legit and put the onus on you - the end user. When did it become my job to enforce the intellectual property right or copyright of a company I don't work for? When legit product become more difficult or hassling to use than pirated ones, THEN you have a piracy problem. Cheap is appealing. Cheap and easy is really appealing.

I don't know - but it's a god send to people using cutoff wheels. To be honest (and guessing) modding has sold a good number of dremels and cutoff wheels - maybe they saw the competition and made a move?

The Pilot deck I picked up at my local auto parts store. Just go take a look - and if they don't have it, search online. I think that switch deck came from "Pep Boys"
Multi-function Modding

There are a good number of wires in this one (and in any of them). That has not changed. Probes are (should) be more accurate than the onboard/software stuff - if for no other reason than you know exactly where you put them. It's also a live readout that doesn't suck up screen space or processor time and an audio alarm can be set (if you want that in software - it takes CPU cycles) Really though - who am I foolin'? It's the bling factor.

Daily News Brief: Blockbuster Bumps Up Online Pricing (Again)
Posted 12/20/2007 at 11:46:08pm
Seems to me, the guy at block buster might want to trim some management positions - possibly starting with his own. Really, that's like 2x the price of netflix unless I missed something.
Modding: Failure is an Option

Thanks WaterRabbit, I won't tell you that bloopers never get hidden, but part of the Mod_Blog is about getting people "into modding". Messing up is part of modding. Even if sometimes it seems like the uber modders never do it, they do (not that I would count myself as one of them - but I've been around the barn a couple times). After all, folks didn't learn to drill little holes in plexi to stop cracks from migrating until they cracked some plexi. Happy Moddin'!

I'll check that out - possibly a blog worthy product. In the mean time, it (crack) should not migrate and will be covered. So, I can move on until I get a chance to re-do it ('cuz it will drive me nuts knowing its there). Thanks again
