Today's geek gift idea isn't for the faint of wallet (or faint of fun). It's a remote control car from Traxxas that goes from 0-100MPH in under 5 seconds, and can hit speeds in excess of 100MPH out of the box, qualifying it as the world's fastest ready-to-race supercar, Traxxas claims. We don't doubt it, we just wish we could afford to buy one for ourselves and all our friends and family for an epic holiday showdown.
The suggested selling price is a penny under $1,100, and you can toss that penny in a well and wish for good fortune (or forgiveness from your significant other). So there's your wet blanket. But boy-oh-boy is this thing frakkin' rad.
The Traxxas XO-1 will go from 0-60MPH in just 2.3 seconds and will hit 100MPH in 4.92 seconds. Top speed is somewhere highter and likely dependent on terrain (and how brave you are). Traxxas partnered with Castle Creations to develop the Mamba Monster Extreme power system that gives this RC car its get-up-and-go (check out the embedded video below).
Geeky details abound, like an integrated capacitor bank, proprietary software created just for the XO-1, Big Block brushless motor that's the largest ever offered in a ready-to-race model, a docking base that turns your iPhone or iPod into a powerful tuning tool, a heavy-duty drivetrain, computer optimized aerodynamics, and a whole lot more.
