Despite Ultrabooks’ lackluster debut, some analysts remain confident of a spectacular turnaround. Perhaps the upcoming Toshiba Portege Z835 Ultrabook will spark the massive change in fortune that is needed if Ultrabooks are to conquer a sizable portion of the portable PC market. The Portege Z835, which is Toshiba’s first Ultrabook, is all set to make its U.S. debut as a Best Buy exclusive.
Though not yet available, the Z835 has already been reviewed by Laptop Magazine, which
hailed it as the “lightest” and the “best” Ultrabook yet
. If all that praise has piqued your interest in the Z835, please note that it will soon become available from Best Buy for $899. Powered by a 1.4GHz Core i3 processor, the 2.45-lb Z835 features a 13-inch 1366x768 display, 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD. At just 0.6 inch thick, it is clearly a very, very thin machine.
The Z835 might be exclusive to Best Buy, but other SKUs of this machine will be available directly from Toshiba and other retailers under the name Portege Z830. The
Z830 series will offer consumers "a choice of 2nd generation Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processors."
