just like the HDD problem oh no not like they had thousands already made not sold and now ram need to make some small tragedy sound like the end of the world and that way cause a false panic and crank up the prices to boot !! double bonus eh ? YOU CAN ONLY CRY WOLF SO MANY TIMES !!

This is ridiculous. A fire at a DRAM factory to excuse the sudden decrease in supply to spike the price. Sounds like those floods that killed the HDD market for over a year. I'm starting to believe that these production drops are 100% deliberate and that the natural disaster excuse is overplayed because they don't have the guts to say that they're just screwing us over, like OPEC does.

Sounds as though it is high time to bring production of these things back to the first world.

I bought 16GB of DDR3 back in late 2012 (just before Christmas) for $79CDN. I thought I was paying too much back then so I decided not to buy another set (which they had plenty of). A month later, the prices of all sort of RAM double and it never got back down. :(

Paul, have you been digging into your past posts so you can recycle them? I THOUGHT so! You posted this exact same story LAST year a while after the fire. So I bought a bunch of memory chips (which were dirt cheap and still are) and I now have 16GB in all my machines while 8GB would probably do me just fine. Scaremonger! Heh.

I'm kind of glad I bought mine last year. Same RAM I bought 2 packs of for $52 now costs $184 for the same exact thing.

I wish I had done that. Been wanting to get some specific 8GB LV DIMMS and they were on sale for $52 each. Normally $75. I keep hoping for a sale, I want at least 32GBs worth for a few machines.
