John McAfee, British-American programmer and founder of McAfee (now owned by Intel), is an eccentric individual, to say the least. He also remains a person of interest in a murder investigation in Belize where he used to live. That's before he fled to Guatemala, played the crazy card and faked a heart attack to avoid being deported, and was ultimately shuttled back to the United States. If you thought his bizarre escapades were over, however, think again.

In a video posted to YouTube, McAfee claims he often receives requests for information on how to uninstall McAfee Antivirus. He notes that he hasn't had anything to do with the software in 15 years, though he gives it a shot (literally) anyway.

The video is definitely NOT SAFE FOR WORK, so take note before you hit the play button. It's filled with vulgar language as he reads supposed letters from McAfee users complaining about the software, it degrades women, and at one point John is shown snorting bath salts, perhaps poking fun at previous reports of his alleged drug use (or maybe it's an admission?).

In any event, this is one weird video that provides a glimpse into John's psyche. It does not, however, tell you how to uninstall McAfee Antivirus, not unless shooting your laptop is an acceptable solution.

Have a look at the NSFW video:

It definitely appears John is a few marbles short of a full sack, but is he crazy? Maybe not. John claimed all along that the Belize government was out to get him, and while his romp through the jungle and into the States has been strange, you can't help but wonder if some of his allegations were true after his island home burned to the ground last month. He lost two structures, each one valued at $250,000. The supposed bush fire that caused the buildings to burn down occured just days before an investment group was to close a deal to purchase the property.

Follow Paul on Google+, Twitter, and Facebook
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/john_mcafee_posts_quirky_video_response_uninstall_requests2013#comments antivirus john mcafee Mcafee Software video youtube News Wed, 19 Jun 2013 16:16:20 +0000 Paul Lilly 25766 at http://www.maximumpc.com Cooler Master's CM Storm Havoc Gaming Mouse Features Ultra-Sensitive Laser http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/cooler_masters_cm_storm_havoc_gaming_mouse_features_ultra-sensitive_laser2013
Get ready to wreak Havoc on the battlefield.

Cooler Master's CM Storm division just unveiled a new mouse for gamers. Arguably no other company has a larger footprint in the smartphone and tablet market, and it's all done through licensing its technology to third parties. Nvidia, whose own Tegra line is based on ARM's architecture, has been paying attention to ARM's business savvy and will soon begin licensing its Kepler GPU technology to other companies.

So says Reuters based on a conversation it had with Nvidia chief Jen-Hsun Huang. As the landscape changes and trends toward mobile, Huang wants to be sure his company remains flexible and is willing to adapt.

"The bottom line is the world has changed and we're expanding our business model to serve markets that we historically could not serve by selling chips alone," Huang told Reuters.

It's an interesting proposition and one that would inevitably pit Nvidia against ARM. As the story goes, Atari was sitting on millions of games and other goods that it couldn't sell, so one day the company decided to load them all onto a fleet of trucks and bury them in the desert.

That was three decades ago. The landfill in question sits next to a railroad behind a McDonald's and has since been packed with dirt and concrete. It's largely regarded as a legend, though don't tell that to Mark Esquero, a 69-year-old who sat for a spell with The New York Times.

"It's not a myth," Esquero insists as he holds up an E.T. cartridge he claims he plucked from the burial ground. Esquero has more than a dozen games he supposedly dug up from a hole in the landfill right after Atari unloaded its goods.

According to NYT, Fuel Entertainment managed to get a permit to excavate the Alamogordo landfill over the course of the next six months. Mike Burns, the company's chief, said he definitely plans to go digging, though concedes "there might be nothing."

Or it could be a treasure trove. It's an 8- and then 16-core CPU based on the ARM Cortex-A57 architecture and is expected to run faster than 2GHz. Other features include an 11.6-inch HD display, Intel Celeron 847 processor, 2GB of DDR3 memory, and a 1.3MP webcam.

Follow Paul on Google+, Twitter, and Facebook

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/acers_upgraded_c7_chromebook_revs_retail_available_walmart_199#comments Acer c7 chrome os chromebook cloud Google laptop notebook OEM rigs Walmart News Tue, 18 Jun 2013 15:30:03 +0000 Paul Lilly 25755 at http://www.maximumpc.com Google Expanding Retail Availability of Chromebooks http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/google_expanding_retail_availability_chromebooks676

Walmart, Staples and many other retailers jump on the Chromebook bandwagon

In a major shot in the arm for Google’s cloud OS ambitions, Walmart and Staples have agreed to carry laptops running Chrome OS. As expected, the gaming/tech event was a big one with Microsoft and Sony showing off their new Xbox One and PS4 consoles. But it wasn't all about the next-generation consoles. PC vendors such as Nvidia, AMD, Alienware, and Razer were at the expo showing off their latest gaming toys and there were a bunch of PC-exclusive titles at the event.

In our E3 2013 picture gallery below, we'll provide a look at some of this hottest tech, booth babes, and much more. Armed with over 3 million physical processing cores and 1 petabyte of memory, there was no way this thing wouldn't shoot right to the top, and so it did, taking pole position on the TOP500 chart.

Tianhe-2 became the world's fastest supercomputer with a performance metric of 33.86 petaflop per second on the Linkpack benchmark, according to the 41st edition of the twice-yearly TOP500 list of the world's most powerful supercomputers. What's more, Tianhe-2's ascent to the top came far earlier than expected.

"The surprise appearance of Tianhe-2, two years ahead of the expected deployment, marks China’s first return to the No. 1 position since November 2010, when Tianhe-1A was the top system," TOP500 said. "Tianhe-2 has 16,000 nodes, each with two Intel Xeon Ivy Bridge processors and three Xeon Phi processors for a combined total of 3,120,000 computing cores."

It's an incredible machine equipped with 32,000 Xeon processors and 48,000 Xeon Phi accelerator processors. The machine also has 12.4 petabytes of storage and consumes 17.8MW of power. It's cooled by a closed air cooling system.

Follow Paul on Google+, Twitter, and Facebook
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/its_official_china_owns_supercomputing_crown2013#comments china Hardware supercomputer tianhe-2 top500 News Mon, 17 Jun 2013 16:24:03 +0000 Paul Lilly 25751 at http://www.maximumpc.com Were Xbox One E3 Demos Powered by Windows 7 and Nvidia Graphics? http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/xbox_one_e3_demos_were_powered_windows_7_and_nvidia_graphics2013
Things that make you go hmmm.

Microsoft made a splash at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) last week by showing off a number of fantastic looking games for its upcoming Xbox One console. It was hard not to get excited by some of the titles, including Dead Rising 3 and Forza Motorsport 5, but as it turns out, the game demos we saw might have actually been running on Hewlett-Packard PCs running Windows 7.

Before we go any further, let's be clear that it's not all that unusual for game developers to use PC hardware to show off future titles, so that in and of itself isn't reason to rake Microsoft over the coals. However, it's at least a little bit interesting that these tech demos were being run on Windows 7 rather than Windows 8, which the Xbox One's OS is partly based on.

Secondly, it was discovered that the HP PCs were equipped with Nvidia GeForce GTX 700 Series graphics cards. Given the risk of exposure, it would have made more sense to use machines running AMD graphics cards since the GPU in the Xbox One is an AMD part that's comparable to a mid-range Radeon HD 7790.

All of this came to light when Julian Rignail from U.S. Gamers posted to Twitter a message saying, "I just played an Xbox One game using an Xbox One controller that crashed... to a Windows 7, Hewlett Packard-branded desktop. Magic!" The Internet demanded pics, and lo and behold, there are a couple shots of Windows 7 PCs tucked inside Xbox One cabinets.

Again, using PCs to show off console games isn't unusual, but the choice of OS and GPU certainly raise an inquisitive eyebrow. And according to Cinema Blend, which first broke the story, developers have confirmed that PlayStation 4 game demos shown off at E3 were running on PS4 Dev kits, not PC hardware.

File this under "T" for "Things that make you go hmmm."

Update 12:30 PM

Or maybe not. A developer for Twisted Pixel's LocoCycle claims that his game was the only one of the bunch running on a PC, and that the choice of hardware was "solely [Twisted Pixel's] decision," not Microsoft's. That would certainly explain a few things, and hopefully blunt those pitchforks and douse the torches.

Kudos to "dracx619" for the update in our comments section.

Follow Paul on Google+, Twitter, and Facebook
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/xbox_one_e3_demos_were_powered_windows_7_and_nvidia_graphics2013#comments console E3 electronic entertainment expo games Hardware microsoft Software video games windows 7 windows 8 xbox one News Mon, 17 Jun 2013 15:36:08 +0000 Paul Lilly 25750 at http://www.maximumpc.com
