Ever since AMD launched its Hawaii GPU architecture, there have been rumblings that a faster version exists, perhaps locked away in the Sunnyvale chip designer's underground vault for a rainy day. If that's the case, be on the lookout for storm clouds -- word on the web is that AMD will launch a faster Hawaii part next year before it comes out with Fiji. How exactly it will be faster isn't yet known.
Hybrid thermal solution offers both air and liquid cooling options
Feeling indecisive these days? Don't sweat it -- Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) this week announced its Poseidon GTX 980 graphics card with DirectCU H20, a hybrid cooling solution capable of keeping temps at bay by air or water, dealer's choice. The benefit of having both is that you can cool the card by air today and make the leap to liquid cooling down the line, if that's your longer-term goal.
We can't say we've ever felt the need to adjust the click resistance on our mouse buttons, but at the same time, we won't begrudge Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) for implementing the feature in its new Gladius gaming mouse -- heck,we'll try just about anything once. The Gladius makes use of Omron mouse switches that are good for 20 million clicks, and should you ever reach that, Asus ROG built an easy-swap socket to make replacement a breeze.
Nvidia releases its second GeForce WHQL driver in a week
While we're sitting at home playing video games, Nvidia's team of software engineers are toiling away on new driver releases, two of which have come in less than week. Yes, it was a mere six days ago that Nvidia gave gamers its GeForce 344.60 WHQL driver, a release that was intended to boost performance in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Now you can download an incremental update to GeForce 344.60 WHQL, which is primed for Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Unity title.
Life is about choices, isn't it? Like whether to view the posted speed limit as a rule of law or a recommendation, and whether to call the next night like you promised you would. Some are less intense and not as prone to heavy consequences, like choosing whether or not to run your monitor in G-Sync mode. That is, when you're given the choice. BenQ claims its XL2420G is the market's first hybrid monitor to give gamers a choice between running G-Sync or Classic modes, and it's now shipping in the U.S.
Expected to hit the market sometime during Q1 2015

In April, Parametric Sound Corporation’s gaming audio brand Turtle Beach announced a multi-year licensing deal with Blizzard Entertainment around the gaming bellwether’s upcoming freemium MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) title Heroes of the Storm. That partnership has led to the creation of the Turtle Beach Ear Force Heroes of the Storm Gaming headset, which the peripheral maker happily showed us during Blizzcon 2014.
With the much-anticipated release of Warlords of Draenor, the fifth expansion pack to World of Warcraft, just around the corner, the just-concluded Blizzcon 2014 gaming convention came as a great opportunity for gaming peripheral manufacturer SteelSeries to tout its Siberia Elite World of Warcraft Edition headset, and that is precisely what the company did.
