Phones for narcissists and budget constrained power users
Microsoft kept itself busy today by unveiling three new Nokia handsets -- the Lumia 730, Lumia 735, and Lumia 830. Out of the three, the first two are billed as being "the ultimate selfie and Skype phones" courtesy of a Full HD 5-megapixel wide-angle front-facing camera with a focal length of 24mm, while the third is what Microsoft is pitching as an affordable flagship handset.
Most of the memory announcements we're seeing lately have to do with new DDR4 RAM kits for Intel's X99 chipset and Haswell-E processors. However, if you're not ready to make the leap to DDR4, don't sweat it -- companies aren't turning their backs on DDR3 memory kits just yet. Hence we have Kingston announcing its new HyperX Savage DDR3 memory line with red aluminum heatspreaders.

Lenovo already blitzed the IFA 2014 convention in Berlin with a number of product announcements yesterday, but as it turns out, the company was just warming up. Picking up where it left off, Lenovo today announced a new portfolio of devices that include the ThinkPad Helix, Horizon 2s, Horizon 2e, ThinkCentre Tiny-in-One (TIO), and Edge 15 with starting prices ranging from $279 on up to $999.
The IFA convention in Berlin is off to a fast and furious start with product makers pouring out announcements by the handful. Among the attendees is Acer, which revealed its new (and rather extensive) product lineup for the holiday season. NZXT's growing family of computer cases now includes the Source 340 (S340), a compact mid-tower made from strong, cold-rolled steel. In an attempt to offer system builders more elbow room so that piecing together a PC is a little easier, NZXT eight-sixed the optical drive bays and relocated the hard drive bays to a lower position. According to NZXT, these subtle design choices opened up the case.
Don't accuse Lenovo of putting all of its eggs in a single basket. That wasn't the company's strategy up to this point, nor is it the road to success going forward -- instead, Lenovo is kicking off the 2014 IFA Consumer Electronics Unlimited show in Berlin by showcasing three new tablet and gaming systems. They include the Tab S8, Y70 Touch laptop, and Erazer X315 desktop
How do you steal some thunder from Intel's Haswell-E launch? There are several options, and the one AMD went with was to slash prices on several 8-core FX-8000 and FX-9000 Series processors. In addition to rolling out some significant price cuts to half a dozen CPUs, AMD also introduced three new AM3+ FX chips -- they include the FX-8370, FX-8370E, and FX-8320E, all of which are also 8-core parts.

Netgear, a familiar name in the high-end router market, just launched its new Nighthawk X4 AC2350 Smart Wi-Fi Router (R7500) with a quad-stream Wi-Fi architecture (4x4).
Earlier this month, LG had unveiled a similar offering

Palmer Luckey, the creator of the Oculus Rift virtual reality head-mounted display (HMD), recently told GamesIndustry International that VR may not become mainstream for quite some time to come. One of the things currently holding VR back, per Luckey, is the use of traditional controllers, which he feels are far from ideal for VR. However, as we wait for the ideal VR input to materialize, the list of controller alternatives for VR aficionados to experiment with keeps on growing. The latest addition to it is the Leap Motion Controller.
