An early look at an Intel 9-Series motherboard from Asus
The motherboard market's been whittled down to a handful of players, one of which includes Asus, a top tier mobo maker. Always on the front lines of what's new and emerging, Asus has begun sending out samples of its forthcoming Z97-A motherboard based on Intel's new 9 Series chipset (Z97 in this case, obviously), which will support Intel's refreshed Haswell processor line.
Meet Optimus MAX, a big capacity enterprise SAS SSD
SanDisk on Wednesday unveiled the Optimus MAX, a Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) solid state drive (SSD) and supposedly the first of its kind to offer a whopping 4TB of capacity. The selling point to enterprise customers is that the Optimus MAX achieves a capacity point that outpaces today's highest-capacity 2.5-inch 10K and 15K RPM SAS mechanical hard drives, thereby making it a trule replacement for legacy mission-critical data center SAS HDDs.

Which is more important to you, form or function? If you're thinking both, you might be a candidate for BitFenix's new Fury line of power supplies. Looking at "challenging the status quo," BitFenix designed its Fury PSU line to run reliably and look good while doing it. Usually when a PSU maker talks about aesthetics, it's a sign that quality took a backseat, but that doesn't appear to be the case here.
A budget priced 7-inch slate with an Intel dual-core foundation
Acer has tapped Intel to power its forthcoming Iconia One 7, a 7-inch tablet with a 1280x800 LED-backlit display and Atom Z2560 engine. The Intel Atom Z2560 is a System-on-Chip (SoC) that's part of the Clover Trail+ platform. It's a dual-core chip clocked at 1.6GHz with Hyper Threading support, 1MB of cache, and support for up to 2GB of LPDDR2-1066 memory with a max throughput of 8.5GB/s, along with integrated SGX 544MP2 graphics clocked at 400MHz.
Acer on Tuesday unveiled what it's calling a 2-in-1 Aspire Swtich 10. The 2-in-1 designation is based on the Aspire Switch 10's ability to function as a laptop or a tablet, though that's a bit of an undersell here. Acer could have marketed the device as a 4-in-1 if choosing to focus on its four modes or orientation, which include the traditional laptop setup, tablet mode, display mode, and tent mode.
Kudos to AMD for releasing a monster dual-GPU graphics card that comes standard with a liquid cooling setup, and props to Sapphire for having the gems to overclock AMD's two-headed beast. Available as a limited edition part, Sapphire said it's now shipping the R9 295X2 OC, which features two goosed GPUs running at 1030MHz (core) with 8GB of GDDR5 memory pushed up to 5200MHz (effective).
An urban legend in video game lore turns out to be true!
After sitting in a landfill covered with concrete for 30 years, numerous unsold "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" cartridges for the Atari 2600 console have been dug up, confirming reports of their fate form the 1980s. Largely considered by many the worst game of all time, legend had it that truckloads of E.T. cartridges, along with other Atari 2600 hardware, were dumped in the landfill, but the story was never confirmed until now.
Toshiba wins race to 15nm in NAND flash memory field
What a relief it must be for OCZ to now be owned by Toshiba. Prior to the acquisition, OCZ had to fret about its supply of NAND flash memory chips, and that's not a concern for Toshiba, which makes its own. On top of that, Toshiba continues to advance the technology. To wit, Toshiba just announced it developed the world's first 15nm processor technology, which it's applying to 2-bit-per-cell 128-gigabit (16 gigabytes) NAND flash memories.
