The Apricorn Velocity Solo X2 is designed to do one thing and one thing only: let you upgrade your boot drive to a SATA 6Gb/s SSD on a system that doesn’t have any of them newfangled ports. Living in a world filled with PCs that could be used in the space program, it’s not a problem we encounter very often, but we can certainly understand its utility where an older motherboard is involved.

Even with prices going up, it's still a great time to be a PC gamer.

Yesterday we told you that desktop DRAM pricing is on the rise as contract chip prices have already jumped 50 percent in 2013, spiking 20 percent in March alone, and now we're hearing that graphics cards are getting more expensive.

Graphics cards aren't just getting more powerful by the generation, they've also grown in size over the last several years. Depending on your case, you might even need to remove a drive cage to accommodate a longer graphics card, though that's not likely to be a problem with Asus' new GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU Mini. Living up to its "Mini" nomenclature, Asus claims it's the only small form factor (SFF) GTX 670 money can buy.

Google Readies Thinner Nexus 7 Tablet for July Release

Another Nexus 7 tablet is just around the corner.

One of the rumors floating around the web today is that Google is planning to launch an upgraded version of the Nexus 7 this summer (specifically, in July). The next generation Nexus 7 is said to feature a thinner bezel and a higher resolution than the current model, which wields an IPS panel with a 1280x800 resolution.

The Durabook CA10 doesn't mind short drops up to four feet.

GammaTech on Tuesday announced that its semi-rugged and ultra-mobile Durabook model CA10 tablet is now available to purchase. That's provided you're willing to spend $1,299 (MSRP) on a slate that's built for people who don't work in typical office environments. Unlike your run-of-the-mill tablet, the Durabook CA10 meets various military standards for dust, water, drops, shock, and temperatures as low as 0 degrees.

Seagate Now Shipping World's First 4TB Hard Drive with 1TB Platters

You could store over a million songs on Seagate's 4TB hard drive.

A representative for Seagate dropped us a note today to let us know the company is now shipping what it claims is the industry's first and only 4TB hard drive to utilize 1TB-per-platter technology. According to Seagate, the four-platter design is a winning one that allows for the highest performance possible while doubling capacity and reducing costs, ultimately giving consumers the best of all worlds.

Contract Prices for Desktop DRAM Spiking Sharply in 2013

DRAM makers are shifting focus from desktop RAM to mobile memory.

Growing demand for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets is prompting memory chip suppliers to commit more capacity to mobile DRAM parts. With only so much capacity to go around, DRAM production for PCs is dropping, resulting in a sharp spike in contract prices. What all this means is that if you spot a good deal on RAM and are in need of an upgrade, go ahead and pull the trigger.

Five new notebook GPUs comprise the GeForce 700M family.

Ron Burgundy once said you have to keep your head on a swivel when you find yourself in a vicious cock fight, but the same is true when wading through tech news on April Fool's Day. That said, everyting (Edit: almost everything) we post today is real, or believed to be real, starting with Nvidia's rollout of five mobile GPUs based on its new GeForce 700M line. We actually spoke with Nvidia last week about these new chips and were told the 700M line runs up to 30 percent faster, on average, than their 600M line.

Who would have thought that Vizio would make a splash in the PC market, and do so at a time when tablets and smartphones are all the rage? Vizio made its move into PC territory last June by introducing a line of all-in-one systems and Ultrabooks with unibody designs similar in style to Apple's MacBook Air (but at a fraction of the cost), and now it's refreshing its lineup with upgraded features, including touchscreen panels for Windows 8.
