Chip maker not concerned about Nvidia’s in-house Tegra 4 benchmark results

Qualcomm and Nvidia are taking turns at dissing each other’s next-gen SoCs. In the latest round of this entertaining battle, we have Qualcomm's Senior VP of Product Management, Raj Talluri, insisting that, despite any claims to the contrary by Nvidia, the Tegra 4 chip can’t hold a candle to its upcoming Snapdragon 800 processor.

The company aims to have its first Firefox OS product on the market in 2014

The ongoing Mobile World Congress in Barcelona has made one thing very clear: that Mozilla’s Firefox OS is steadily gaining support among mobile carriers, with as many as 18 carriers from around the world having already been confirmed as backers of the platform. One such carrier, Spain-based Telefónica, has entered into an agreement with Sony to, among other things, “explore” the development of a Firefox OS-based handset.

Samsung Confirms Galaxy S IV Launch Next Month

Barring any last minute surprises, the Galaxy S IV will land in the U.S. on March 14.

Samsung is planning a press event to introduce the next Galaxy device on March 14, 2013, in New York. We know this because Samsung posted a teaser for the event on its Twitter page with a tagline that reads, "Ready 4 the show?" along with a URL for a livestream (www.youtube.com/SamsungMobile). And lest there be any lingering doubt, Samsung's chief of mobile, J,K. Shin, confirmed at Mobile World Conference that Samsung is indeed gearing up to announce the Galaxy S IV next month, according to Edaily, a South Korean news site.

Will reportedly cost less than $1,500

A year ago, Google Glass was said to be heading for a late-2012 retail debut with a price tag in line with that of current smartphones. A few months later, Google co-founder Sergey Brin put paid to that rumor when he revealed early 2014 as the most likely timeframe for the launch in an interview with Bloomberg. Well, that was back then. The latest update is that Glass will be available a bit sooner than that.

Nvidia Unveils Its First Integrated Tegra LTE Chip

The Tegra 4i processor, previously codenamed Project Grey, features 60 custom Nvidia GPU cores.

Nvidia's firing on all cylinders today. The GPU maker made waves early this morning by formally introducing the world to its GeForce GTX Titan graphics card, which is supposed to offer comparable performance to the dual-GPU GeForce GTX 690 part for the same price, and now Nvidia is announcing its first fully integrated 4G LTE mobile processor, the Tegra 4i (codenamed Project Grey).

BlueStacks wants you to get your Android apps back on Windows 8

At last month’s Consumer Electronics Show, Android virtualization startup BlueStacks announced that its “App Player” software, which lets people enjoy Android apps on their PCs, was coming to Microsoft’s latest desktop operating system. Western Digital's $70 WD TV Play Undercuts Apple's Streaming Box

The newest entry to WD's media player line sports built-in Wi-Fi and 1080p streaming.

Apple may have hit an affordable price point with its $99 Apple TV streaming set-top box, but Western Digital's new WD TV Play box comes in even lower at $70 MSRP. It's the entry-level model in WD's media player lineup and is similar in function to the now mid-range WD TV Live, minus the ability to play MPEG2 videos and DTS audio. Otherwise, the WD TV Play is able to stream popular Internet channels like Netflix and Hulu Plus, and can tap into your photos, music, and movies from other networked devices.

Wikipad 7-inch Android Tablet for Gamers Launches in Spring for $249

Inside and out, the Wikipad is primed for gaming.

It's safe to say that Steve Jobs was wrong about the 7-inch tablet category, which even Apple competes in these days (iPad mini). As times goes on, you can expect to see even more smaller size tablets enter the market place, including the 7-inch Wikipad, which is scheduled to launch in the Spring of 2013. The Wikipad is built on top of an Nvidia Tegra 3 SoC foundation and is essentially a smaller (and less expensive) version of its 10-inch sibling, though it's geared for gaming.

Redbox Instant Video Headed to Xbox 360

Microsoft scored a console exclusive agreement to keep Redbox Instant off of the PS3 and Wii U.

Microsoft's Major Nelson blog has revealed that the "Redbox Instant" video service by Verizon is coming to the Xbox 360 "in the very near future." The Xbox 360 is the exclusive gaming console launch partner, which means Sony (PlayStation 3) and Nintendo (Wii U) can do nothing but sit on the sideline and wait their turn. If you're already a Redbox Instant beta participant, keep your eyes peeled for an email with a unique code to access the app on Xbox 360 in the coming days.
