Been burned by Android malware? If so, Microsoft wants to hear from you, via Twitter, for a chance to score a free Windows Phone device. Microsoft's promotion ties into the recent RuFraud Android scam, in which third-party apps masquerading as legitimate programs like Angry Birds rack up premium SMS charges on the sly. Microsoft wants users to post their #droidrage story as it attempts to capitalize on the hysteria.
Nokia’s recently announced Lumia 800 seems like a competent smartphone, the only problem is that it’s not available in the US. The Verge is reporting that there’s a perfectly good explanation for that. Nokia is working closely with AT&T to bring the Lumia 800 to the US with LTE 4G data on the carrier’s brand new network.
You may recall that shortly after its launch, Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 was hacked by the Chevron team, allowing users to install homebrew apps without a pricey developer account. Microsoft asked the devs to pull it down as the tool interfered with updating devices, but promised to work with the developers to officially support unlocking. Well, the day has finally arrived. Official Windows Phone unlocking is available for a nominal fee, and users won’t even have to void warranties to do it.
With one of the primary features of Windows Phone 7 being the myriad ways it integrates with Facebook it may seem redundant to offer an app dedicated to the social network. For Facebook die-hards though, sometimes you just need to dive into the service to tackle all of the aspects and features you are used to having available.
Nokia's officially back in the smartphone game. The Finnish phone maker announced the launch of its Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 devices at Nokia World, the first Nokia smartphones powered by Windows Phone, and according to company CEO Stephon Elop, "Lumia is the first Windows Phones" period. Those are big words coming from Nokia, do these phones have the moxie to back them up?
In an interview with The Seattle Times, Andy Lee, president of Microsoft's Windows Phone division, took a few potshots at the competition while talking up his company's Mango platform. Mango, or Windows Phone 7.5, was introduced to some existing Windows Phone users last month and introduces 500 new features. But is it better than the competition?
