We don't post a ton of deals here on Maximum PC, but when we do, they're pretty sweet. With that in mind, we thought you'd like to know Electronic Arts is giving away free copies of Battlefield 3 for PC when you pre-order Mass Effect 3 from Origin. That's a $60 value folks (or around $45 if you do a bit of shopping around) for a game we're
January was a slow month overall for videogame hardware and software, with combined sales (including accessories) dropping from $1.14 billion in January 2011 to 750.6 million, a 34 percent year-over-year slide, according to data released by market research firm NPD Group. Be that as it may, Microsoft's Xbox 360 console maintained its lead in the U.S. console market for its 13th straight month.
If you're an old school PC gamer, a quick way to get depressed is to head over to your local GameStop or Babbages and browse the PC section. The lone rack (at best) is a far cry from the days of shelves lining stores like Software Etc.* with PC titles, but that doesn't mean the platform is dead, Steam and other digital platforms have change the way PC gamers shop, and it's the reason Activision Blizzard's digital sales are at an all time high.
Hasbro, a multinational toy and board game company with the rights to the official Scrabble game, is teaming up with Zynga, a social network game developer with a number of popular titles under its belt, including Words with Friends, an online knockoff of Scrabble. The partnership gives Hasbro the rights to produce a wide range of toys and games based on Zynga's online games and brands, the two companies announced today.
Electronic Arts has apparently come to the conclusion that the Wii is not a suitable platform for future versions of its Tiger Woods golf game and will not be releasing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 on Nintendo's motion control console. It wasn't all that long ago when the Wii was the most popular platform for the Tiger Wood series, so it's a bit surprising EA has decided to skip it altogether.
When you flip on your Sony PlayStation 3 console today (assuming you own one and plan on using it), you'll be prompted to download a new software update, version 4.10, which happens to be the first one of 2012 for the PS3. You'll also be asked to accept a change to Sony's Terms of Service, which primarily deals with rebranding your "PSN Account" to a "Sony Entertainment Network Account" (SEN).
Say what you want about the Titanic, at least it only went down once. Sony's PlayStation Network? At times it feels like that ship sinks more than it swims. That isn't actually the case, of course, but frequent maintenance following the high-profile hack job last year means more periods of downtime than gamers would like, including today. If all goes to schedule, PSN will turn back on at midnight PST.
So you chugged the blood of Aela the Huntress whe she was in werewolf form and now you too are on a bad Twilight trip, which was fun at first, but began to lose its charm when a bug prevented you from turning back into a human. D'oh! Well, there's good news for you. Skyrim 1.4 update is available on Steam and it will cure your constant beast mode, along with dozens of other bug fixes and quest glitches.
The Dutch Supreme Court denied an appeal by a 19-year-old who was convicted of stealing a 13-year-old boy's virtual goods in the online game Runescape and ordered to serve 144 hours of community service. It probably didn't help that the suspect roughed up the 13-year-old and threatened him with a knife until he logged into Runescape and handed over an amulet and a mask, but this case was just as much about the value of virtual goods as it was the violence that took place offline.
Most of us will never make it to the century mark, it's just not in our DNA, nor are we willing to give up the debauchery of our youth in the off-chance that we'll defy Father Time. But, there are things we can do that could potentially extend our stay among the flesh walkers, like eating healthy and looking both ways before running red lights. Or we could play videogames.
