By now you've have had plenty of time to log significant hours into The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and may have even finished the main quest, but you've probably only scratched the surface of all there is to do. In case you were starting to lose motivation, Bethesda is working on a patch that, among other things, makes it much more satisfying to kill enemies.
Hell hasn't frozen, though Blizzard did finally commit to a shipping date for Diablo III, the highly anticipated third installment in the popular hack-and-slash Diablo franchise. The game comes out two months from today on May 15, and if you're chomping at the bit, you can put your preorder in right this very second (Battle.net account is required). It's $60 for the digital version, or free if you sign up for a World of Warcraft Annual Pass.
If it weren't for stereotypes, we'd say diehard gamers unplugged for a week of romancing and lovemaking to celebrate Valentine's Day last month, which would explain why NPD Group noted such a sharp decline in videogame sales in February. We don't condone stereotypes, but let's get real, February was just a crummy month for game sales and it had nothing to do with there being a day for lovers.
Well known game developer Peter Molyneux is leaving Lionhead Studios, which he founded 15 years ago in 1997, and is also walking away from his position as Creative Director of Microsoft Game Studios, Europe. He plans to walk away from both companies as soon as Fable: The Journey for the Kinect is finished in order to found a new company called 22 Cans.
After conducting a review of its business and analyzing "current organizational needs," Blizzard made the tough call to axe around 600 employees, the game developer and publisher announced this week. Only about 10 percent of those pink slips will be handed out to workers in departments related to game development, and of those roughly 60 workers, none of them will be from the World of Warcraft team.
Good news if you were one of the unlucky few who have been experiencing color output problems ever since Microsoft rolled out its major dashboard update back in December 2011. A new mandatory update is supposed to kick the unwanted "colorspace issue" to the curb so you can watch videos without washed out colors and poor black levels, which were the most common complaints.
We've seen some bizarre marketing stunts before, but one of the coolest ideas undoubtedly belongs to Electronic Arts. Forget for moment any ill will you have for EA and the company's refusal to play nice with Steam. EA's much hyped Mass Effect 3 will be successful even without Valve's platform, and if you happen to be in the right place at the right time, you'll have a chance to score a copy for free simply by reaching out and grabbing it as it falls from the sky. What the frak?
The electronic surgeons at iFixIt point out that they don't break gadgets, they tear them apart. We love when they do, because then we can spy the innards of expensive tech gear laid bare without ruining our own equipment, allowing us to live vicariously through their teardowns. This week iFixIt took apart Sony's new PlayStation Vita handheld console, which turned out to be surprisingly easy to service.
Hulu Plus found a new way to be streamed into your living room. Nintendo today announced it has teamed up with the streaming video service so that Wii owners can now subscribe to and access Hulu Plus for $8/month and instantly stream popular TV shows like Family Guy, Glee, The Office, Modern Family, and more, as well as hundreds of movies, on their Wii console.
We don't post a ton of deals here on Maximum PC, but when we do, they're pretty sweet. With that in mind, we thought you'd like to know Electronic Arts is giving away free copies of Battlefield 3 for PC when you pre-order Mass Effect 3 from Origin. That's a $60 value folks (or around $45 if you do a bit of shopping around) for a game we're
