Gaming social network Raptr, which has over the past few years published yearly lists of the most popular games based on its users’ gaming habits, last month began doing so on a monthly basis. Earlier this week, it published the second such monthly list of “most played games.”
Maxis and Electronics Arts today confirmed that they've begun work on The Sims 4 at The Sims Studio. If all goes to plan, the next major installment in the highly popular Sims franchise will launch to PC and Mac systems sometime in 2014, though it's unknown if the Maxis and EA are targeting an early, mid, or late year release. What we do know is that there will be new and intuitive tools to play with, along with the ability to share items with friends.

AMD promises a significant reduction in latency in titles like Skyrim and Tomb Raider.
A new driver package is available for AMD Radeon, Mobility Radeon, and PowerXpress GPUs. It's AMD's Catalyst 13.4 update and it's supposed to "significantly" improve latency performance in Skyrim, Borderlands 2, Guild Wars 2, Tomb Raider, and Hitman Absolution, according to the release notes. it also offers performance gains in several titles across the entire range of Radeon HD 7000 Series graphics cards.

Mobile gaming is already popular, but if new data from Juniper Research proves accurate, the number of game app downloads will steadily rise to more than 64.1 billion over the next four years. That would mark a greater than three-fold increase over the 21 billion game downloads that occurred in 2012, and it's thanks to a combination of free-to-play games, more capable devices, and a growing number of smartphones around the world.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced that a fifth expansion to its Lord of the Rings Online free-to-play MMORPG, Helm's Deep, is slated for release this Fall. The new expansion stretches the story into the western plans of Rohan where players will battle for direct control of Helm's Deep, introducing 10 new levels and advancing the level cap from 85 to 95 in the process.

AMD's series of Never Settle bundles are proving popular among gamers in need of a GPU upgrade, and to keep the good times rolling, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is now part of the Reloaded package. It's actually the only title in the Never Settle Reloaded bundle that's offered across the board among the Sunnyvale chip designer's lineup of Radeon HD 7000 Series graphics cards.
Games publisher Electronic Arts has started handing out pink slips in another round of job cuts. It's unclear how many people EA plans to let go, though it appears most of the layoffs are being focused on the publisher's Montreal-based mobile development studio, which had been rumored to be in the process of shutting down. EA said it doesn't plan to close the studio, though it did confirm the layoffs.
