Sony touts social and cloud features
Hey look,
In a repeat of last year’s back-to-school promotion, Microsoft last month began offering a free Xbox 360 to U.S. and Canadian students buying a new Windows PC. But what about those students whose allegiances lie elsewhere in the HD video game console wars? They need not worry, for there’s a deal for them too.
Barring any last minute surprises, Nintendo will be the first of the big three console makers to come out with a next generation living room game system. It's the Wii U, and it will ship with HD graphics support, a funky new tablet controller, and updated guts that, in theory, should have developers excited. It is, after all, a new toy to play with. So why are a handful of developers dissing the Wii U?
Good news if you were one of the unlucky few who have been experiencing color output problems ever since Microsoft rolled out its major dashboard update back in December 2011. A new mandatory update is supposed to kick the unwanted "colorspace issue" to the curb so you can watch videos without washed out colors and poor black levels, which were the most common complaints.
When you flip on your Sony PlayStation 3 console today (assuming you own one and plan on using it), you'll be prompted to download a new software update, version 4.10, which happens to be the first one of 2012 for the PS3. You'll also be asked to accept a change to Sony's Terms of Service, which primarily deals with rebranding your "PSN Account" to a "Sony Entertainment Network Account" (SEN).

Capcom on Thursday said that Resident Evil 6 is in full development and scheduled for release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation game consoles on November 20, 2012, "with a PC version to follow." The newest installment in the popular zombie franchise takes place ten years since the Raccoon City incident and will see Leon and Chris come together for the first time. They will also be joined by new characters, Capcom says.
Congratulations UK PS3 owners. You’ve got Netflix! Well, a Netflix app, at least. Did we mention there is still no Netflix service in the UK? You were probably aware of that, but the appearance of the app in the PlayStation Store should offer some hope that the service is really and truly going to arrive soon.
Back in mid 2010, Sony made the decision to remove a feature from the PS3 firmware that was much beloved by the modding community. Of course we’re referring to the “Install other OS” option. Well, a cadre of angry nerds filed a class action suit shortly thereafter, but a judge has just dismissed the case once and for all.
